Food and Poop....HELP!!

  • Food and Poop....HELP!!

    I am on day two of Atkins and I am experiancing completly liquid poop with only cucumber seeds and tiny bits of baby spinach in it, this started yesterday afternoon. Below is what I have eaten over the past two days and my fitday report shows that my levels are 63% Fat, 30% Protein and 7% Carbs which isnt perfect but is damn close.

    Yesterday:

    Breakfast: 2 Eggs scrambled with .5 TBS butter and 3 slices bacon.
    Snack: Sugar Free Jell-o Cup
    Lunch: Salad (1cup iceberg, 1cup baby spinach, 5 slices cucumber, 2oz hormel cure 81 ham, 2oz cheese, 2TBS Vinegar and Oil Dressing)
    Dinner: 4oz Baked Tilapia, 1TBS Extra Virgin Oilve Oil, 1cup Broccoli

    Today:
    I am eating the same thing as I did yesterday.....exactly.


    I use FitDay to plan out 7 days worth of meals following all known guidlines:
    - No Alcohol
    - 12-15% carbs from veggies
    - Keeping the fat/protein/carb percentages as perfect as possible.
    - No more than 1100 calories a day.

    I plan on eating those 7 days worth of meals for the next three months, rotating them as I want to of course. This means I want to be on the induction phase the entire time.

    Finally.....
    1. Am I doing it right?
    2. Is the liquid poo normal? If not what should I do?

    Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    I would say yes to the liquid poop. That happend to me for several weeks in the very begining and occationally will happen still. Nothing uncontrolable it just seems to happen. I have been on induction for about 15 weeks and only get it maybe twice a month now. I didn't expierence any pain with it so I figured it was my body working out the tons of crap I had been putting in it.
    As far as an extended induction I would think that is fine. That's my plan of attack too. I have stuck to meat and veggies for the 15 weeks and it seems to be going well. I am learning controll and would like to lose the majority of the weight and I want to be able to trust myself as I moves up the rungs. There are some vets here that know their stuff and can let you know just how you should do extended induction but at this point for me it's a matter of staying on track and at this point cold turkey works best for me.

        Last night was hard. I was hungry. FOR CARBS!!!! ANY CARB!!! I cried for a good thirty minutes about the unfairness of even gaining weight in the first place and why we all just cant eat what we want. Thank the Lord above that I removed all non Induction foods from my home or I am not sure I would have made it. I ate a jell-o cup, baked fish and broccoli and I was fine. I also quit smoking the day before I started dieting so I think that might have added to my breakdown!

        As of today I am four days nicotene free and three days carb free. I weighed this morning and am down four pounds from my start weight so that was all the motivation I needed to keep it up.

        Thanks for listening to what I have to say and the support I receive from this board!!!!

          oh Kelly -- you've really bitten off a huge hunk all at once...stopping smoking and losing weight! I stopped smoking cold turkey July 4, 2008 and have never looked back. The first few days weren't fun because for 35 years I had smoked -- was up to 3 packs a day when I quit.

          Just remember, Atkins is like walking, once step at a time...one step becomes one day and each day you'll loose more and more weight. You can do this!! Keep telling youself you're better than the flab and better than the cigarettes - that's what I keep doing. I'm just getting started but this is the best I've felt in years.

          As far as the liquid poop -- I've been having the same problem. Scared me at first because I've never experienced anything like this before. This morning seems to be the easiest so far - my 3rd day. I'm looking forward to the day when it stops...because if it doesn't I'm gonna have to buy stock in our water company and a toilet paper company!!

            I too have it today. It has to be the cauliflower I had with dinner yesterday....

            I have in the past gotten a bit slowed up. I suggest a stool softener or more fiber rich veg.

            If you are hungry eat more. I know this sounds crazy but induction is about getting all of the cravings over with and limiting specific foods from your diet. Remember when it says liberally in the book it means liberally.

            Take a minute to look at other peoples menus. Yours looks very small to me 1100 cals a day isn't much for Atkins. I am thinking you might want to increase it to 2500- 3000. Check out some of the old timers fit days.

            I know that part of this is loosing your appetite, but do not restrict it. The plan allows you to learn about yourself not just loose weight fast. Planning 3 months of induction menus seems a little extreme. If you have a family it is great fun to try meals out on them and even creat your own.

            I quit smoking about 11 years ago- and it was tough. That after meal smoke was hard to let go. But after a few days you will notice that cigs are gross and smell terrible. That if yuou smoke you mouth will smell like a wet ashtray. YUK. Just go take a wiff of a wet ashtray and it should help... LOL

            We don't eat elephants all at once we eat them one bite at a time so-Don't put to much pressure on your self. You are doin great!v

              Congratulations on changing your lifestyle both by quitting smoking and starting low carb at the same time!!

              LOL, I did the EXACT same thing you did. I stopped smoking on 12/29/08 and started induction again on 12/30/08..................

              By the weekend, I thought I had a stomach virus or something because I was physically ILL............... I wanted to rip my dH head off and everything.................. LOL

              I am all better now and no cravings for nicotene or anything sweet!!! It will pass, just hang in there and just keep watching the scale go down, down and down!!

                One thought...although unrelated to the poop issue: 1100 calories, I believe, may be too little. You don't want to go into starvation mode. Maybe I'm wrong, since I'm new at this too! . Hang in there! I admire you conviction!

                  if it happens again get some type of meat you can roll up (ham, turkey, etc) and grab the mayo jar!! Another thing is celery with cream cheese...it does work. I've used both of these methods to get through a few rough moments this week. Usually I can get up and get my mind off of it - don't ask why I can do this now, I've never been able to do it before!!!

                  It will pass sweetie -- believe in yourself.

                    Liquid poop is part of the deal. I guess it means you are doing it right. Just stay away from white pants and near a bathroom.

                    I also quit smoking, but not at the start of induction. I started induction December 17th, and quit smoking after induction. It wasn't planned, just an accident.

                      I have had a lot of liquid poop on Atkins too. Flax does help firm things up a bit.

                        the rolled up meat was in reference to her hunger....but hey - if it would be helpful in either end...go for it...ROFL!!!!!

                          I have ongoing problems with constipation and had been eating a lot of whole grain fiber so my problem has been the opposite of yours. Dr Atkins addresses my problem in his book so I'm working on it. Try eating more cheese which is binding in some people but should help you.

                            Thanks to all the great replies and kind words!!! I upped my caloric intake to 1500 calories a day, I am never hungry and even cant finish all of my meals. The liquid poop has subsided. As of today I am 9 days smoke free and 8 days on Atkins Induction and I am showing a weight loss of 6.5 pounds.

                            I am a very happy camper!

                              Oh I forgot to add I also do a work out video everyday called "Four Fast Miles", its a basic walk/jog of four miles in 47 minutes. I dont know if it is the not smoking, the diet or the workout but I truly feel better than I have in years and years.
