  • Shades on the Keto stixs

I have been doing Atkins Induction for about two months+. I am learning from this site and all of your advice, that I have made some mistakes. (I've used almonds as a snack, and occasionally had cottage cheese sprinkled with sunflower seeds, for example. I probably could have watched my portion sizes better.) But I've managed to drop two clothing sizes inspite of this. And I keep referring back to the book to see where I could be doing better.

I don't weigh myself because the fluctuations frustrate me. I use inches, my baggy clothes and keto sticks to see if I am on track. I cannot get a keto stick to turn beyond moderate. They usually report small to moderate. Is that enough to be in ketosis?

As I understand it, if you have too much colour it generally means that you're dehydrated. So if I'm right about this... you must be drinking your water.

I hope it is never2...it's the best I can get a stick to do as well. Some of the other posts say if you're even getting it pink and you're drinking lots of water that you're still doing good. (apparently drinking lots of water dilutes the ketone down so that the stick doesn't react as much)... I know some folks that really know what they talking about will give us both some reassurance, but I think we're doing well.

What a relief to read!! I was about to complain to the pharmacist that she was selling me defective keto stixs! Thanks! Yes, I drink plenty of water...6 to 8 -12 oz bottles per day...sometimes more.

Wow...that is such good news!!! I'm loving the baggy clothes, but I just wasn't sure about the color on the keto sticks. For some reason, I thought that the darker they got, the better I was doing? I don't think the book ever specifies what result we should be looking for.

Just to be sure, I had my perfectly healthy and slim teenaged son use a stick. Absolutely no color change...so I knew my body was doing something that his wasn't.

Mine are showing trace to small amounts. When I did Atkins before I never got past the moderate mark. I was told there is no such thing as a little ketosis like there is no such thing as a "little" pregnant. You are in ketosis. Keep believing and keep trucking!

Any shade of pink/purple is good enough for weight loss. In the beginning, I was usually dead middle on the charts. Lately, I've been closer to the "trace" amount and yet I'm still losing an average of 3 pounds a week. Don't let the color stress you out!

Re: Shades on the Keto stixs

Hello to all.. Every shade other than the negative is ok. Just hang on in there. If the stick is registering colour then you are in Ketosis.. You want to try your sticks are ok? mix water with sugar and dip one in there.. No colour change should be recorded.. Even better give one to someone to try..

As for the shades..It must be depended on each person. On my first week I was in the trace to moderate reason, but these last 10 days I am on maroon to purple region.. and I am drinking my water..lots of it..

So, to conclude, even the slightest change means there is ketosis going on..

I'm registering moderate to high every day on my keto sticks but haven't noticed ANY difference in my size (and yes, unfortunately i'm a scale psycho...that's not showing any difference either!!) I'm getting frustrated...

Hey chilandrina, how many days are you in the induction now? could you please let us know what is your typical menu? Keep in mind that our bodies differ, and we do not drop inches and weight every day the same way..you might go on like 3-5 days with no change, and then, there will be a sudden drop. Maybe you are retaining water.. Let us know ok?

Re: Shades on the Keto stixs

I'm starting day 18 today. a typical menu for me looks like this:

2 eggs scrambled in 1 tbsp butter
either 4 strips bacon or 3 breakfast sausages (they have 2 g carb per 3 ssgs.)

                      a string cheese for snack

a salad for lunch (1 1/2 c. lettuce with chicken, a few slices of cucumber, 1/4c shredded cabbage and 2-3 tbsp ranch or caesar dressing --with 1-2 carbs per 2 tbsp.)

broiled 12 oz top sirloin steak with cajun seasoning
1/2 c spinach or broccoli sauteed with 1 tbsp butter, 1 tbsp olive oil and crushed garlic and a pinch of salt
sometimes I add half a small avocado with a tbsp or two of sour cream

I drink at least 64 oz water every day
i do have one cup of coffee or tea (regular not decaf) with a tbsp heavy cream and about 1/6 packet of splenda every day
                      s270/c251/g200

                      goal 1: 245 by 2/1
                      goal 2: 235 by 3/1
                      goal 3: 225 by 4/1
                      goal 4: 215 by 5/1
                      goal 5: 205 by 6/1
                      final goal: 200 by 6/15

Re: Shades on the Keto stixs

well.. I would be worried a bit about the ceasar dressing.. Just make sure that there is no sugar..carbohydrates are in essence sugar.
I see you have registered a 19 pounds drop in yous signature..so I think this is pretty much ok for 18 days..
Nevertheless, my suggestion would be to kick the butter for olive oil.. Try to get the virgin one..the greener its colour the better ( I am telling you this due to my Mediterranean origin), make sure that there is no hidden sugar in the butter. I know it should not be any but you never know..
Lastly, butter tends to have salt.. maybe you are just retaining water from the hidden salt in your butter and the one you add.. try for 4-5 days not to use salt or butter (replace with olive oil), and let me know what are the results..
yet, I still think that your weight drop is ok.. Do you exersise?

p.s. you guys are lucky to have splenda.. In Greece there is no place doing the stuff.. just sucrose and aspartame..

If you can find foods sweetened with sucralose (rather than sucrose which is another name for sugar) then that is the same as splenda.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

when I first started I was always in moderate to high, though i drank the water. and now, 3 months later, I am lucky if I get a light pink, I am always in trace, but I continue to lose 3-5 pounds a week.
