Re: Shades on the Keto stixs

I take between 3-4 litres of water a day.......

during the day , the ketostix shade is bang in the middle (average)

but in the evening, after exercise session, the ketostix is the very dark purple.

day 17...........it's a long way to paradise !

Re: Shades on the Keto stixs

I have read that depending on the time of day you use the sticks, it may affect the reading. They say to test at the same time each day to promote some consistency.

try to get a reading at the same time every day. First thing in the morning is the best, as with all tests (that's why they ask for a morning urine test). It just a bit of waste of sticks to get measurements all around the day.

Re: Shades on the Keto stixs

I think the only consistent thing about the sticks is you're either in or you're out. I drink at least 100 ounces of water per day, usually more. My sticks are at the end of the scale...deep purple, but I'm not dropping weight left and right. I'd take light pink to moderate and dropping 3-5 lbs per week but I've been pretty "stuck" lately! I think we're placing too much importance on the "shade" of our results. After all, the world isn't going to see our urine splattered sticks, they notice our size!! I really do believe they're a helpful tool in induction and then after that, only to gauge ketosis as we add in more carbs.

              Interesting new find...

I dropped my Diet Dr. Pepper for one day, and this morning I wake up and use a Keto Stix... it's pink! It hasn't been pink in the morning for weeks. woo hoo.

                That IS very interesting!

I gave up diet soda because I read somewhere that insulin reacts to some of the "fake sugars" just as if it is sugar. I'm back to water only, and a daily cup of coffee. I know I need to give up that coffee, too. But I feel like I would never wake up without it!

Yeah, that makes sense. I am hoping since I am being super good and making sure I don't eat ANYTHING not on induction foods list (i even gave up KETCHUP!! *gasp*) that I'll go back to losing instead of this maintaining stuff :P

I have to say I get so much out of reading everyone's experiences with the ketostix.( and everything else)
For me they are a mental 'boost' to let me know I am on the right track.
Early eve is the time for me to test- differnet times different shades. and that's a waste too.

I just wanted to also say thanks to everyone who posts. All your honesty really helps me keep it real.

You all are so great! What a treat to be here.

And it continues to be pink...but a bit darker! wooo hoo!! Though, now that I think about it, I did drop my Atkins bars the same day..... when I add my DDP back to my diet in a couple of weeks I'll let you know if the shade drops.

Re: Shades on the Keto stixs

now this is so very interesting too. I started using Atkins bars during my 2nd week of induction and hadn't lost a pound that week. BUT I got my period that week too. I wonder if I should cut out the bars for a bit.
                          I'll have to keep watch.

I won't be using the bars!! Maybe when I'm done losing weight. Not healthy. Not a whole food. Stalls the heck out of me and everyone I've ever talked to about it with the exception of a couple people. They're icky on top of everything else. I believe they're a money maker. Pure and simple...they're about money. I'm really lazy about preparing things in advance too! So, believe me when I say, I think you'd be pleasantly surprised with your results if you cut out the bars and everything you can that is processed.

Lisau39, even Dr Atkins is reluctant on the use of bars during Inductions. They contain lots of ingredients that are not allowed during induction. Georgiana has posted a huge list with most of the Atkins-branded products and their composition. I cannot find the post right now, but it posted some days ago. You should stick with the food as described in the book. Doing atkings our own way is the kiss of failure as Dr Atkins wrote in it.
