    I just did some research and of course you all are right. I "assumed" because they said, "safe during all phases" I was just behind the times!!!

      Good to see that Because it says Atkins, it doesn't mean it was approved by Dr Atkins (hard to do anyways..) So better thing to do is to stick to his advice and his book..

        I am on my 6th day of induction and have lost 8 lbs already. I also found that I am only on the trace and small level on the keto sticks, but losing so we must all be doing o.k.! Is is normal that you are keto so quickly ( on my first day it was showing up that I was in keto) Watching the today show today I saw a guy who lost 230 lbs and his motto is "nothing tastes better than life"!! LOVE IT! I may have to borrow his motto and repeat it in my head when I want sugar! Keep up the good work everyone!

          I know it took me exactly 48 hrs to use up any carbs in my body before the keto stix changed color.
          We are all different so our bodies function differently. Everyone's response time is different.
          Good for you though. Keep going.

            I am learning this day to day. I pulled out the cookbooks and find it better for me to make my own.
            There are enough acceptable things on the list to get me by. I have to use my brains and not look for the easy way out!!!!

              It's purely Atkins bars. I had two ddp today and my keto stix is still dark pink. stupid bars. I officially loathe them.

                now i have a question - yesterday whipped out my ketostix and decided i would read the instructions - i know they only last 6 months so i have not opened them yet gonna test after my period ends as i dont want my period affecting the outcome of the test

                anyways when i was reading the instructions it was saying if your in the warning levels which if i am correct is the darkest of the shades that you should call your dr immediatly anybody have any insight on this ?

                  Hello Bnorris. There was a similar discussion some days before.. Ketones are byproducts both in diabetes and lipolysis..
                  so as long as you are doing the Induction as intended, then you are ok

                    ok good to know - my dr is testing me for diabetes in a 2 months - my blood sugar was a little high the last test i took but i also had drunk a big huge glass of milk like 20-22 oz man oh man it was a good cup of milk gotta say thats probally the one thing i miss the most lol but anyways i think thats what raised my blood sugar up but it was not to bad otherwise he wouldnt be letting me wait 2 months before testing again - im gonna have to break the atkins diet for 3 days before the testing as he says i have take in 200 grams of carbs each of 3 days prior - he gave me a menu to follow but since i just started the atkins when i went to the dr he said i could wait 2 months

                      My keto stix are registering ketosis moderatley and I am drinking 12 glasses of water a day and am on 5 th day of induction, but I am wondering too if maybe I am retaining water? I am having my monthly's though, does anyone know if that effects ketosis and water retention on atkins? Will I notice chnges in inch loss after the next week is over and is there something I can take for water retention if it doesn't go away, thats safe to take on Atkins? Thanx,s I am just full of questions,hope this was the right thread for this,I am just getting my bearings on here.

                        well i am on 14 days induction and negative on ketosis but my friend said her mom took a month to get into ketosis and that once she did she dropped 80 lbs in 3 months

                        then stopped the atkins diet and gained back like 30 lbs of it but she is talking about getting back on it again

                        so gonna give myself longer before i worry about ketosis - i am loosing weight so thats a good thing

                          If you are losing then you are on ketosis, irrespectively of the shades on the sticks. Stix are a quantitative control not a qualitative one. As we have mentioned before, do not really bother about them, or better do not hold faith in them. I know it is a psychological boost to see them turn pink or whatever shade, but if you are losing then that is fine!

                          With concern to water retention, just let it go off naturaly, do not use any diuretics to help the process.. There are side-effects of diuretics, like washing out of minerals from our body, drop of blood pressure and all of its associated risks, like fainting etc. Just remember is not about watching the numbers on the scale go down, it is about losing inches and looking good

                            I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with this..I have been on the Atkins diet for 5 months and I am now have only 20lbs left to go until I reach my goal. I still do the keto strips ..I don't know..call me crazy, but it is comforting to know that they are still turning colors..Also, I am still eat a lower amount of carbs because even adding 5 carbs for a week STOPPED my weight loss so, I had to go back down. But, what is happening recently is that the keto strips went from moderate to just a trace and I think I lost 1/4 a lb last week..I'm okay with that but, just curious if anyone has ever gotten close to goal and experienced a slow down like this..and if I should be concerned with the strips dropping from small to moderate down to just a trace of ketones..

                            oh, and yes..I drink all my water.

                              Just keep in mind, that as your weight goes down, you metabolism lowers to a smaller caloric need, thus your body adjusts to that, and since you burn less, you produce less and at the point where you are, this is gooood

                                I know..I guess i just keep thinking I want to be "DONE"..but, I will never be done..will I? Because this has to be about changing my life and if i just go back to eating whatever then I'll gain it all back..

                                Oh, BTW..DO NOT USE DIURETICS ON THIS DIET!!! This is the 3rd time I did Atkins..(I gained back some weight in between my last 2 pregnancies..) anyway, on the 2nd time..I tried that because for some reason I did hold water here and there and the side effect ISN'T just losing minerals or whatever..but, KIDNEY STONES!!! I had terrible kidney stones..I ended up getting pregnant after being in the hospital so thank goodness I didn't have to go through the surgery..Idid pass that stone but, it was horrible pain!
