  • Feeling a little discouraged.

Today is day 15 on Atkins for me and my husband. I'm very proud that we have made it two weeks. I have lost a little under 6 lbs in the first 14 days. I was hoping for more but I'm glad that I have stuck with it and lost some weight.
Here is my issue. Last week I started a new job in which I'm working 12 hour shifts. So I do not get home until after 8pm. I do not get time to eat supper until I get home. And because I'm on my feet all day (I'm a nurse) I haven't felt like exercising at all. So I have gained a lb here and lost one there. But all in all I have only lost 2 lbs this last week.
I'm just not sure if I should just be hungry and not eat late or eat because I haven't ate since lunch. Any ideas or suggestions? I want to keep loosing and not stall after 14 days.

    Re: Feeling a little discouraged.

That second week can be tricky. Many people see little weightloss that week. It is like the body pauses a bit. Sometimes as our bodies shed the fat the cells hold on to extra water but they will let it go.. Often you will lose inches though. It happened to me too. So don't let that one week beat you. It is a long journey. Also can you eat small snacks while at work. Boiled eggs, cold cuts, pre prepared salads?
You should eat your supper. Going hungry is not something that helps you on Atkins.

Yep, Liv is right - you cannot skip meals because we need to keep blood sugar level. Can you have quick to eat snacks in your work breaks, or pre-prepared for when you get home? Boiled eggs, ham roll ups, cheese, chopped veggies like tomatos or celery or cucumber are good.

I imagine exercise is the last thing you want to do when you've been on your feet that long. Could you do an activity on your day off? Being fitter overal will probably make such long shifts seems easier on your body.

Well done on your success so far I was the same way with the 2nd week too.

        Re: Feeling a little discouraged.

I will be taking some quick things to work with me on Thursday ( the next day I work). I have decided to walk in the work-out room after work. It gives me some time to myself and leave "work at work". I will just have to make changes to my day and to take time for myself. Thanks for the advice.

I agree. Pack your self a small cooler and have it loaded with foods you can eat. Your body needs it and so does your mind.

Good luck in the work-out room. Have fun and enjoy your special time.

you should get a pedometer and wear it at work. I bet you log a lot of steps walking around the hospital.

              Re: Feeling a little discouraged.

              Hey Everyone.....

Im bran new here and getting very discouraged. Im a 26 year old guy. Have 3 small kids and a wonderful girlfriend. I want nothing more than to become a police officer. My whole life my weight has been holding me back from what I have wanted to become

I have been on atkins several times through out my life. The diet worked great the very first time I was on it...I lost about 43 lbs in 3 months...

It seems like every time i got back on the diet I didnt see quick enough results and quit....

I have the motivation now to make this happen and havent cheated one time. I have been on the diet since Dec 15th 2008. Within the first two weeks I had lost 10 to 12lbs......now going on week five im gaining two lbs then losing two lbs....Im never getting ahead.....

My starting weight was 293.....this morning I am 278 after 5 weeks

I dont know guys Im just very upset right now and it doesnt help the fact that when i see all the amazing success some of you have had in a very short time it makes me feel like its not meant to be for me......

I get super pumped when I see things like lost 30lbs in the first 39 days.....lol but at the same time im going how come I couldnt do that......

HELP ME PLEASE......I dont want to quit....My dream of becoming a police officer needs to become a reality already. I have gone too long not living my life because of my weight....

thanks so much for listening to me ramble on

                Hi Dana,
post your daily menu and everything you eat drink in the menu section and have it reviewed there. Do you exercise as well? It may be different every time you do it and we lose weight at different rates so try not to compare because you are making progress.

                  Re: Feeling a little discouraged.

It can be tough; I've gone through the same thing. Post the menu like previously said. Also, remember to only eat until satisfied not stuffed.

                  Are you exercising regularly?

hey guys thanks for the replies. Ummm as far as exercising I would have to say no not regularly I was walking about a mile and a half a day on a treadmill, The girlfriend and I just had a baby so my time has been pretty much consumed.

Hi to everyone feeling discouraged, I've been feeling like this too. This is also day 15 for me and my husband - we both saw great weightlosses in week 1, and then have slowed/even gained in week 2 but.. we will carry on regardless.

I'm sure if we all keep on with it, keep following the great advice here, then it will all come together for us too.

Good luck everyone, and stay motivated.

                        Re: Feeling a little discouraged.

ACTUALLY your doing really well. If you read DANDR he tells us that we should expect to lose 10 percent of what we want to lose on induction. You want to lose 50 and you have lost 6 pounds so your a pound ahead. This isn't a quick weight loss diet like some people think but its slow and steady. You should start losing on aveage a pound or 2 a week from now on.
You can do it. Get out the tape measure and watch the inches melt way

                        41 pounds down and counting

                          Re: Feeling a little discouraged.

Hi, this is the first time I replay to a post!! But I think you should now that I'm also in my 2nd week induction, lost 7 libs already and this week (day 3 of second week) I gain 1 lib and I've been estricted as ****.

Mainly and that is why I'm replaying, I eat around 9:30 to 10 pm and go to bed at 11 or so, there is no way I could eat early due to my work, and eating that late didn't block my 7 lib so far..

you should eat no matter what time, your boddy will adjust to the new timing.

I doubt that's true. I think it is pretty much horrible to eat right before you go to bed. I understand you can't help it, and having worked retail most of my life, I totally understand, but I am pretty sure eating while you still have several active hours to process the food is much better for you.
