I am in my 3rd week of Atkins induction. I dont want to move on just yet, but I am thinking maybe if I go a bit more toward OWL, I will stick with it. My thought is could I have a 6g carb ww tortilla per day and/or an Atkins bar for a few days and then go back to induction without doing any damage? Please advise if you can. I dont want to blow this! Thanks.

The Atkins bar is known around here as a 'frankenfood'. Even though it's low carb it has caused many people to stall. I'm one of them. The tortilla isn't allowed yet. When you go to OWL you are just adding 5 carbs of vegies in the beginning. You need to see how your body reacts then you can move from rung to rung. Good luck to you.Restarted Atkins 5/1/06

Another veggie isnt going to keep me from breaking. If there was a choice of another food that might help me for a few days, what would it be? And would it hurt the process doing that and going back to induction? I am ok with a stall for a day if it will keep me on the program. Help please!luvthin

Hi if you move to OWL for the new foods to keep your choices from getting boring you can keep your carbs well below your CCLL and keep your weight loss speed up. that is called a modified OWL and you just add the 5 net carbs from the rungs in order until you decide where you want to stop increasing. for me ofr the first 6.5 months I held it right at 20 net and added rung 1 and 3. We had a very successful loser add all the rungs and hold at 20 just swapping out one rung for another till she has them all and then she just mixed and matched yo get her 20. One of the other Early mods held hers at around 30 while she slimmed down. Or you can climb it in order and keep going till you find your CCLL. if you are working out hard like Loonatika you can get a very high CCLL hers is over 100, mine was 110 hitting the gym and treamill daily for 90 min. The more you workout the higher yours will be!
Read the stikies in the OWL forum and read your DANDR and then decide what you want but do add the foods in order and that tortilla will be a rung 9 addition as it has grains in it unless it id one of those soy flour ones and then it is a rung 6 addition

Why are the atkins bars considered frankenfoods?
It seems if the Atkins company puts there names on it, then they should be Atkins approved..I don't understand the carb count on them though..I looked at one the other day and it said counted as 3 net carbs..You took the carb count of 17 and then subtract from it the sugar alcohol of 15 from it..Can anyone explain how they come up with that and what it all means..Why would sugar alcohols be subtracted from it.. I do understand that you could go over board on these bars and be in the same boat you were in to begin with, but wondering it when you get a sweet tooth, or TOM if it wouldn't be better to snack on one of these then to fall off the Atkins wagon.. :smackhead

just a warning that alot of people suffer from stomach problems from eating things high in sugar alcohols and they often trigger cravings and stalls so no I wouldn't say it's better than cheating...what I would say is that you should try to make something off the acceptable foods list...I make crustless pumpkin pie...its delicous and I still stay on course...an emergency as defined by Atkins would not be because you want chocolate and think you will fall off the wagon without it...an emergency is you are stuck on an airplane or in a conference room with nothing induction friendly to eat.32yr old Female

I agree with all the information given above just wanted to point out that a stall does not last one day its lasts weeks
A stall or plateau is defined as 4 weeks without losing pounds or inches.
so do think about having no weightloss for 4 weeks if its really worth that bar.

i know that being bored with food is my biggest danger. maybe we can suggest some options? i loooove chicken wings, I feel like im having a treat.
and I do have some special treats for emergencies. the other day i was having a horrible time, and decided to have 2 carb-kisses. it worked for me, but everybody's different.

Well if it weren't for cream cheese, cocoa and splenda, I would be in PMS psycho ****, a ranting, raving and screaming banshee I tell you, running around yelling about ice cream cakes. Course I never could stop at one cream cheese bite, :no but at least the ice cream cake didn't win out! MWA hahahaha

You're on a bit of a slippery slope right now it seems. You're trying to rationalize eating things that aren't allowed at this stage in the game and you need to do a little bit of research and find alternatives that are made from Induction legal foods rather than turn to processed foods.
Induction, and Extended Induction is a time to re-learn how to eat. In the past you may have turned to processed foods, but now is the time to reach for fresh, home-made things that satisfy you, and are much better for you nutritionally.
You may also want to re-read the chapters about OWL and see if maybe it's time to move on.
