  • Flatulence ? Atkins or Psyllium ?

    Hello All,

I started induction a little over 3 weeks ago and have since lost approximately 13lbs. I'm within 10lbs of goal weight and am happy so far except for one thing.. Major and I mean MAJOR gas !

I've stuck with induction only foods and have been consuming about 15g of carbs per day. A week and a half ago I began taking 3-4tbl spoons of Psyllium husk ( from Trader Joes ) with water to combat some slight constipation issues.

My wife is happy with my weight loss but you can only use the ole dutch oven trick so often before all **** breaks loose.

Is this a biproduct of the diet or is it the Psyllium I've taken religiously for the past week or so ?

    Please Help...

    Sincerely,

    Gassy in California

    Psyllium

I am horribly sensitive to it. It causes the worst gas and bloating. Quite painful actually.

I use flax meal or the clear fiber that you can mix in a drink. ie Benefiber, Fiberfit
They are a little more expensive but worth it.

Now I lay me down to sleep; A cup of Splenda at my feet!
I'll be good and drink my water--Leave the grape juice for my daughter.
I promise to eat all my eggs, So take these bulges from my legs!
I'll eat my pork--I'll eat a steer--Just smooth these bumps off of my rear!
I'll never even look at jelly,Please take the blub out of my belly.
These lips will never taste a sweet, (Oh if I could only see my feet!)
So, please, tonite before I wake,
    A few more pounds--Whoosh Fairy--take!

Thank you for the response. It makes sense its the Psyllium since my issue began around the same time I began taking it.

I may need to look into the alternatives you mention because besides the gas, it has really helped me with the constipation and has kept me regular.

Oh, and I'd like to update my weight loss. It is now day 24 and its now 15lbs lost. 203lbs down to 188lbs.

Congratulations on your huge losses so far

With a total of about 23 pounds to lose you have already lost 15

Don't hang around on induction but move to OWL now and start adding more veg carbs - it might help with any constipation issues without the gassy side effects of psyllium
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
