  • Back on Atkins; Not What I Expected

I started Atkins in September, lost about six pounds on induction then quit because I knew the holidays were coming and I didn't want to limit myself during them as Thanksgiving is a HUGE celebration for my family. I went through October, November and December without gaining any of that weight back. I started up again on the 1st of January and started losing weight that day.

That was... unexpected. I had expected to go through Induction Flu again and have to wait three or so days to hit ketosis. My morning weight on the the 1st was 194, by night it was 192 and the next morning I was at 190 and the morning after that 189. I know it's normal for body weight to fluctuate but not by that much. I weigh myself several times daily so I know my morning weight is always my lowest and having my weight drop so drasticaly in 24 hours really made isolating a starting weight impossible.

I only stalled during my period, dropping 3 pounds on the scale the day after, and have lost a total of 12 pounds over the first month. But this has really been a weird experience this time around.

The only thing constant is the fact that I seem to never poop. Maybe once a week I can expect a bowel movement but never what I would consider enough. There's no abdominal pain or feeling of constipation I just... don't poop. I've been considering getting one of those colon clensing regiments such as Nature's Best Acai Berry or Bromalite.

Any ideas why I went into Ketosis immediatly after three months of normal eating? Any recomendations for colon clensing? I've been taking fiber suppliment (psyllium husk fiber as recomended) since day 1, knowing what to expect from my last Atkins experience, and I can't say it's really a help in this department.

    Thank you,
    Niko

Okay this is my own personal observation but I also noticed that I don't poop as much. I am thinking that carbs are what we mostly get rid of and that protein and fat just produce less waste! Does that make any sense

What a nice surprise, I'm sure! I only poop about once a week as well. It's because we arn't eating so many of those carbs that keep us regular. It's nothing to really worry/stress about. Great job on the loss so far

Less carbage in = less garbage out
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Your weight fluctuation in small period of time isn't abnormal. In a week I can fluctuate quite a bit. For example, on Saturday, I weighed in at 143. But this morning I weighed in at 147. (This could be due to all my indulgences on Super Bowl Sunday!!!) But I will likely be back down to 145 tomorrow or the next day. A lot of it has to do with your fluid levels, the time of day that you weigh, etc... (You shouldn't really be checking your weight more than once a day. Try to do it at the same time.)

I know weight fluctuates, I've just never seen a five pound drop off on day one of Atkins. I consistently weighed 183 that whole week prior to starting.

I like weighing myself many times daily as weighing myself the same time daily is impossible with my schedule. I don't find it at all discouraging. Because I know my average weight fluctuation, it's easier for me to calculate a mean. I know I weight 4 pounds more at night than I do in the morning so seeing a difference of less than four generally means weight loss during the day. And I always figure if I'm naked and in the bathroom, may as well weigh myself. I actually found I soak up .6 pounds of water from the shower through my skin. Good times!

Discovering my 'normal' weight fluctuations was fascinating and allows me not to panic at times
