So I just finished with induction on Saturday and yesterday for the superbowl I made an array of Atkins safe things including cheese crisps and devilled eggs which was all fine BUT we bought a rotisserie chicken at the grocery store - I checked the label which was difficult (I had to lift it up and look underneath) - I did not see sugar listed and 0 carbs and thought 'Hurray!; and went home and ate half of it skin and all. Now,the whole time I'm thinking, "This skin is amazing" and also, "Wow, I really can't stop eating this like when I was eating carbs" - SHOULD have been a warning to me but I chose to ignore that. So, after eating all of this I went and looked at the label in the trash can - below the initial list of ingredients there was another list I didn't see which included BROWN SUGAR, MOLASSES, SUCRALOSE, AND DEXTROSE!!!!!!! Ugh, ugh, ugh. So mad at myself but lessons learned that I need to REALLY read the label and when in doubt, err on the side of caution - if something tastes too sweet or is something that I almost 'can't stop' eating it's a bad sign. I am continuing in induction until the end of February - despite this mishap this is all working well for my body.

    Re: Grrr

I agree, Kathy It is so irritating after making a careful selection of foods according to the nutrition label to discover on finding the ingredients list that they include something you never imagined they would add to that food.

And they seem to hide the ingredients list somewwhere so you can't read it clearly till you unwrap the food too

Looking on the bright side - at least now you know to trust your taste buds if it seems too sweet to be 'legal'
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

So sorry to hear of the mistake. I too had a small slip up recently when I accidently took a drink of sprite. It was next to my water in a clear cup and I was in the middle of a conversation, without thinking, or looking I grabbed the wrong cup (I spit it out). Lesson learned for both of us. Believe me if I was going to cheat at this point it would be with something alot better than sprite! And I bet the same goes for you ... Who in thier right mind would cheat with chicken?! My advice would be to push the water and get the taste out of your mind and sugar out of your system. You'll do great .

I had a similar thing happened to me... I made Linda's Meatloaf and she says it's only 3g net carbs, but I made it and couldn't stop eating it, it was SO GOOD!

Then, I was looking at the "low carb ketchup" she calls for in the recipe, and I just don't trust it...

I couldn't stop eating and that was the first thought that ran through my head, "I'm eating like I did when I ate carbs... but this is a 'safe' food right? ... right?"

          Oh well, leason learned.
