  • Not hungry.

I eat three meals a day now. I don't cheat nor do I feel the need to when I first started. As a matter of fact, since I started two weeks and five days ago, I'm never REALLY hungry. Is this normal? Do others experience this? I'm not eating huge meals: four strips of turkey bacon in the morning with eggs, lunch is a salad with chicken (or sometimes just chicken thighs, about three) and dinner as chicken or fish with a salad. No cheating at all, just not hungry. The only reason I even question this is because I have been craving deep fried, creamy and sweet crap for YEARS and now all of a sudden, POOF! No more cravings. Not even for regular food. IT'S CRAZY!!

    Re: Not hungry.

I would say, yes it is normal. That is one of the benefits with this WOE. But, just be sure you do in fact eat. I find myself struggling to get hungry. Plus, I know the brain triggers the same response for thirst as it does for hunger...maybe we were just not hydrated enough before and we confused the thirst cries for hunger cries...now that we are hydrated, there is no more confusion.

      Re: Not hungry.

I agree. It only took a couple days and I found that I wasn't reaching for something to "munch" on. It is great to only need three meals and maybe a small snack every day. I never have been on a 'diet' before that I wasn't hungry or obsessing over food.

        Re: Not hungry.

yeah, thats my biggest problem, i recruited my mom, and she asked " should i take hoodia" and i said NO NO NO. I know for a fact i don't eat nearly as much as im supposed to. For me...that's insanity. My husbands jaw drops every time we eat. I normally eat to plates full. But now i can't even finish a small plate full of food. I work 12 hour night shifts. So for me, this is a blessing. Making food in a sleep lab at 2 am is such a pain...

Sadly i fell off the wagon...HOWEVER im back on starting today 8/21/09 (176lb)

            Re: Not hungry.

Ok, Milliesman and NOWandTHIN....you two are scaring me because I've been where you are but you still need to be grazing during your waking hours. Realize that you are basking in the honeymoon induction phase of I'm NOT HUNGRY and this may not last much longer!!

Milliesman, are you eating more veggies that your posts says you are? If you're not....the weight loss is going to stall and you're going to be back in here posting about doing everything right and still not losing weight in a few weeks, maybe a little longer. I don't know how some of you people poo!! LOL! You're eating lots of protein, some (probably not enough) fat and very few veggies. Get on fitday.com and tweak your dietary percentages to 65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs. Your body will love it. It's the way this was designed to work if you're still in induction. Do whatever you need to do to get those percentages almost exact for 2 weeks.

NOWandTHIN, you said, " My appetite is basically non-existant...I know im supposed 2 eat 3 times a day but sumtimes the thought of just turns me off and I dont even have the desire to fork it down....Im not starving myself, I just get nauseous wen I try 2 eat when Im not hungry...this is a huge blessing seeing as tho I used 2 engorge myself on fast food 2-3 times a day."

I totally understand about having a hard time forking food down when you're not hungry but I promise you....continuing to lose weight while denying your body fuel will only work for a short time and then the weight loss stops and your system get screwed up. You know you're supposed to eat 2-3 times per day?? 2? Where did you hear that? You ARE starving your body even if that's not your intent. You could probably see a huge increase in the amount of weight loss if you graze throughout the day. Breakfast is still super important for us. Are you eating in the morning? Are you actually getting in around 15 carbs per day from your salad and veggies? I know if I only ate once or twice per day due to not feeling like eating...then, I probably wouldn't be eating any veggies. This route will not work for long. I encourage you to get on fitday.com. You'll love how easy it will be to figure out the math of protein, fat and carbs you need to optimize your weight loss. Try it for 2 weeks. You'll wish you had done it sooner!! Good luck to you and keep posting!

              Re: Not hungry.

Thanx for the tips! I awake at 530am because I have to be work @ 7 so as you could imagine, I dont have time to eat breakfast...I know I should make time for it but the thought of another scrabled egg is hardly motivating. I try to order 2 eggs with sausage in the morning if I get hungry if I dont I usually just 4get completly...(I know this is bad & I dont do it purposely) but sumtimes I dont even eat lunch! I go to skool at night which means I have VERY little time to prepare sum induction friendly recipes therefore, I dont have anything to bring to lunch and would rather STARVE before I even thought of pulling out 1 of those fast food menus and ordering sumthing. We're not allowed to leave the facility for lunch so basically I am stuck with a choice of pizza, pasta, or sum sort of breaded chicken! Before class I make sure I eat something because I know after class I will probably be too tired to stand around my kitchen thinking of something to eat. I know it sounds bad but I REALLY need 2 learn how to budget my time so that I am more prepared...as well as find sum good breakfast recipes to tempt me to actually EAT breakfast.

P.S. I've made a couple of "pancake" recipes that were more like an over-cooked omelette than a fluffy butter-milk pancake...there goes my hope for breakfast being fun again!

                Re: Not hungry.

Dr. Atkins says you should go no longer than 6 hours without eating. I get hungry every 4 hours so eat small meals or snacks 5 or 6 times a day.

Try carrying celery sticks with cream cheese filling or make some deviled eggs for a change from regular ones. Try taking sugar free jello to work if you have access to a fridge. Check out the recipes on the board and other websites because there are thousands of things you can eat. A few slices of pepperoni make a great snack and there are lots more. You don't have to starve yourself, just get a little creative. Good Luck!

                  Re: Not hungry.

I am rarely hungry unless I exercise prior to mealtime.A brisk 4 mile walk does wonders to increase my appetite for healthy foods.

Try swimming for your exercise if at all possible. It is an excellent form of exercise, plus for some reason, it seems to stimulate the appetite. I get out of the water ready to eat a whole quiche. Happily, a slice suffices!

                      Re: Not hungry.

Hi everyone. This is my first real post on this board. Thanks for the posting since it was on my list of must ask questions. I've been on extended induction for 6 weeks now due to the fact that I'm a severe diabetic, PCOS and have heaps of weight to loose. But like the OP I'm starting to become concerned about my appetite.

I've always been a BIG eater, I mean BIG and have always been big on eating meat. With the exception of breakfast I haven't been consuming more protein just cutting way down on carbs. But for the past 2 weeks I've been forcing myself to eat, especially breakfast and lunch. Sometimes I feel naestious or just have no appetite. I'm trying to eat vegies (3 cups/day) but whenever I have to face a sallad I feel sick. I know that my diabetic med's can make you feel sick but this just doesn't seem to be normal.

                        Re: Not hungry.

I had a pretty health appetite the first time I did Atkins.

This time is different though. I'm eating smaller meals and typically hitting 1600C. I'm a 6'3" M who lifts weights and does cardio 2-3 times a week.

I think it's fine though. I'm losing weight and still keeping up at the gym.

It's been great not feeling the need to keep eating. My wife did make a low carb desert (clouds - frozen cream cheese, butter, splenda, and vanilla) this weekend that I ate even though not hungry. Those things are dangerous! I figure that on V-day it is okay to indulge a little.

I know its hard. I work two jobs, taking college courses online again(its alot of work) and have events to go to for family. I take a day on the weekend and make things up. Make up ground beef, ground turkey, chicken breasts, HB eggs, etc., you can make some of Linda Sue's recipes as they can be frozen. Thats what I've been doing lately and putting them in the plasticware, some in fridge for immediate use and some in freezer. Just take an "nuke". Brook has some really good ideas for time management and getting things done quickly and easily to be organized.

This last week I went grocery shopping on my way home on Friday night. On Sunday, I made up two of Linda Sue's receipes, cut them in portions and put some in the fridge, some in the freezer. I cut all the veggies up and put in containers in the fridge ready to go. Made six hard boiled eggs, some go in salad, some are just handy to go snacks. It's been the easiest week I've ever had and I'm always prepared!

I was eating cheeseburger quiche (reheated) this week for breakfast - it really did keep me full almost all day but I forced myself to eat salad at lunch and then another small piece of quiche or something for dinner. What I like most is it is really getting me out of the snack habit and into a more routine of meals when hungry! Don't forget your water!

I hope that helps. Search for Brooks post on how she gets prepared.
