  • So happy right now....

....to be settled in bed with my laptop having NOT cheated tonight. I will share that I have decided tonight to throw out my scale (or at least have my husband hide it for the next few weeks) as I continue this new WOE. Why I am relieved to not have cheated is because this morning I weighed myself and the number is still there - 185, a pound up from my weight last week after my first two weeks of induction and as a scale addict this set in motion the insanity of thought and almost, action. I was so upset this morning that I started researching on the web about cutting calories, doing extreme versions of protein diets etc. and I was pondering going out and eating a bunch of crap and then starting AGAIN with one more extreme diet. I am doing Atkins and it feels sane and healthy and I cannot do the scale for the time being, I just can't. That number is dictating how happy I can be and that's ridiculous considering with my measurements I am making progress and overall I feel so good. So I'm taking the ticker off of my signature and just going weekly or perhaps bi-weekly measurements from now on. I'm not going to give up as I have in the past - I am following through because I know I am on the right and best track for my life. Thanks for listening!

    Re: So happy right now....

Kathleen, you are not alone. I had similar thoughts last weekend.

Some days my normal portions are okay. Other days I am just flat out hungry. Today was one of those days.

I started out eating more for breakfast and lunch than I usually do, and didn't get around to fixing dinner until around 9:00 because I finally got satisfied and wasn't hungry. It seems so counter-intuitive to eat MORE when you want to lose weight.

I have "cheated" a few nights, too, but always cheat on legal foods... just have more than I am supposed to if it's a really tough time. It seems to be paying off.

Today I have eaten more fat than usual, and I went over on the cheese because I had my heart set on spaghetti squash with chicken alfredo tonight. So I am one gram over, and over on my cheese, but I am so satiated I'll bet I end up eating less tomorrow.

Just want to encourage you to stick with it.

And you are a VERY smart lady for keeping the scales out of sight. The scales have caused me more anguish and anxiety than I care to talk about!

As usual Sunny I always love hearing from you and you always encourage me. It's very reassuring to know that you and I'm sure many others on this journey can relate to all of those feelings. I think it's a delicate balance in terms of doing this correctly - I mean we are all right to do this the way it should be done, but for me personally I cannot get too rigid if I have a little extra or "cheat" as in having more atkins friendly foods than I am supposed to. I think this really is about the fable of the tortoise and the hare - the tortoise perserveres and reaches her goal slowly but surely and that is like us. Have a great night - I am really excited about just measuring and taking all of the power away from that stupid little number! Have a great night and thanks again

Congrats on not getting discouraged enough to cheat! I'm new to the diet, but i'm definitely addicted to the scale, your story has inspired me to hide my scale in my closet and try to weigh myself once a week instead of 2ce daily (toldja i was addicted =D).

I also haven't haven't been taking measurements and i know i should. I'll venture out and grab a tape measure this week =D

Good luck kicking the scale habit & on the diet! =)

          Re: So happy right now....

Hi Whatailsus - so glad you're here - yes, I too was weighing too much, daily in fact which is fine when you're losing but when you're not it's nuts what it does to the mental state. This is too important to leave to that number IMO and I have been researching everything that goes into that number and it's crazy as a society how much stock we put into it. I have a friend who is 5'2" who has been a gymnast all of her life - she looks GREAT and toned and not heavy or even overweight and I believe wears a size 2-4. Ready for how much she weighs?? 150 pounds. She is all muscle. That is proof to me that a number doesn't tell the story whatsoever. DEFINITELY do measurements because there is nothing more exciting than tracking getting smaller and it's a much more accurate measure of progress. Have a great night!

            Re: So happy right now....

I moved my scale to the far bathroom that i never use. So it's easier to not weight myself, cause im lazy enough as it is. Also, the hiding thing is a good idea. i might have to make my hubby dot hat.

              Well done for not cheating
I just wanted to share something with you...

During the six week exercise challenge (number 49) I was getting pretty discouraged as I lost less than 2 pounds in six weeks! Because I was doing the challenge, I had measured myself and was astounded to see I had lost nine inches in that time!! My body had changed a lot during that time - I had lost a dress size - but I was still fed up about the reading on the scales! Try and weigh in once a week and measure at least once a month xx
