• New 2005 induction menu on Atkins.com question

My dad was starting up Atkins again and he told me about this "new 2005 14 day induction menu" on Atkins.com.... I looked it over and it looks a little questionable ensive since most days the net carb count is over 20 grams. What do you guys think? Did I miss some news about the Atkins WOL that allows this? It looks like a low-fat/low carb mix and I thought that was a no-no for induction. Just want to know your thoughts on this.

I didn't examine it closely, but I could see right away they are pushing their frankenfoods. Bread is not acceptable for induction according to the book, but there it is for breakfast on Day 1. The website is getting really bad about straying from the priciples laid down in the book so they can sell their products and make a profit. It's really sad. The best way to do Induction is very simple: if it's not on the Acceptable Foods List (or all of its ingredients) don't eat it!

Isn't that something? That's actually the first time I've been to the Atkins website and viewed the menus. (I just read the book) and I can't believe the induction menu. I wonder if Dr. Atkins is rolling over in his grave.

wow... I think if I were to do that menu, I'd gain weight rather than lose. It does amuse me though how everyday they want you to eat something name brand

Something I don't understand...

In the book in the sample menu for induction, Dr. Atkins suggests the shakes, bran crackers, and something else--can't remember right now. I don't think he was that against the foods that his company makes.

I just came from the site and i was so mad. do you know how many people want to lose weight.
Dr. Atkins wrote something that works now they are varieting it. I swear id be so confused had i not done this before. I feel bad for newbies who will visit the site. They will just get frustrated.
I just sent them an email telling them to stick to what was written by atkins himself.
Trying squeeze the money out they are so money hungry.

Yeah Dr Atkins said the Atkins foods were ok, but not for induction as he said to use unprocessed natural whole foods. Plus remember when the last book came out, most of the foods now on offer at atkins.com didn't exist.

Saying you can have multi-grain bread on day 1 of induction just seems to me completely silly. Sure the carb count may be low, but whole grains don't get added in til the last rung of OWL, and the reason for that is their higher GI levels which can affect some people with cravings and stall weight loss.

I could pretty much rant on all day about their menu suggestions but I won't. No wonder people get so confused over how to do Atkins.

It saddens me that they've gotten so contradictory between the book and the website. :no It's like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.

Best thing to do is just stick to everything as laid out in DANDR, because we know for a fact that it works, right folks?

When you have the Rules of Induction and the Acceptable Foods list straight in your head, you are set, and you can recognize when a food choice is a good one or not.

They have some awesome recipes there though, but I notice some that say Induction Safe have bake mix in them...so there ya go..
But some are really good, and it's worth looking through.

Its all money, and thats a shame. This board can give you better and more accurate info on Atkins and we have 2big whose questions to atkins.com stumps them. LOL
Stick with this board and you won't be led astray.

I understand about healthy, whole foods...

and I personally don't eat the other stuff, but Dr. Atkins does suggest the shakes in the book for induction. They are in the meal plan.

they are in the chapter 18 induction program not the chapter 11 and if you look at the ingredients in the shakes and you know how he felt about making the dal with the devil you see they are not an everyday event and the indredients are in compliance with the acceptable foods list. looking over that menu you see frankenfoods whose ingredients don't come close to acceptaable how can you eat nut muffimns if nuts aren't allowed? ANA who run the Atkins.com site made a decision as a corporatrion in 2004 to taylor Atkins to the current life style ( which is what got us fat in the foirst place) and not as doctor Atkins told us to change our life styles and way of eating to be in line with his program.

We ahve all seen the slim fast effect. folk lose and are very happy themn regaini it and jump back to slimfast agtain it is a very very profitable program. just as jenny Craig makes their profit off the foods now the ANA makes its profits off Dr Atkins name on a food and not from Dr Atkins treating patients and seeling books as it was when he was alive.
I hope nobody here falls into the Atkins?Slimfast yoyo dieting putting money in the company pockets. The DANDR was writen so you could do it at home and not need any fancy snancy foods. stick with 2002 DANDR even with the poor editing and the confilts between chapters it is still much better then ANA info.

That's what it looks like on the outside...the outside the company wants to project. But if you read the other books, by Dr. Atkins, he didn't like the processed stuff and thought it was the reason why we were fat and why our health was poor.

The patients who stayed, however, were extremely loyal to both atkins and his low-carb diet. But they had one major complaint: In a fast-paced world where everything was low in fat or high in carbohydrates or both, it was difficult to find something that they could eat on the run while still remaining on the low-carb program. They had no time to prepare their own snacks. Perhaps something like the low-fat energy bars sold in convenience stores would be great, only low-carb instead.

Atkins hesistated, and for a good reason. One of the things he constantly stressed with his patients was that they should eat foods that were as close to their natural state as possible, and for him, any kind of energy bar was as good as poison since it was clearly a processed food...

But his patients continued to beg him for something---"you sell the vitamins and other supplements, why not energy bars?" they reasoned--and so, with great reluctance, he gave in and developed not only an energy bar but also a low-carb shake that would make it easier for patients to keep to their Atkins programs.

"As long as you only use it for emergencies," he reminded them...
*******
The energy bars and shakes were a necessary evil, there only because he thought his patients were too lazy to prepare the real kind of unprocessed foods that were the mainstay of his diet.

Not exactly a glowing opinion of the bars/shakes/etc. nor of the people who use them....

Very Interesting!

Wow, all of your comments are very interesting to me. I have been on Atkins for 4 weeks (tomorrow). The first weekend, we went to one of those Atkins stores and the guy there tried to sell us all kinds of stuff, but, I had already been to this site and decided to have a "clean" induction so we didn't buy anything. Since the 2 week induction, I have tried adding back in things made with splenda, but every time I do, I get really bad diareaha, some people can't handle sugar, real or fake!
