  • Really Struggling Big Time

    Hey all,

Here's my problem. I've been on this diet since Jan 3. I have only lost 6 pounds. Now, in inches, I've lost a bunch. 47.75 all over body (neck, upper arms, chest, rib cage, forearms, wrist, waist, hips, upper thigh, calves and ankles), so you know what it is that I've been measuring. So that's great news, right? If I'm loosing so many inches....why aren't my pounds shifting? This is really turning me to depression in a big way. I have to say it. I mean, I hear of a bunch of others loosing 20-30 even 40 pounds in a month...I've only lost 6 in a month and a half. I've been keeping it by the book the whole way through, only drink water, occasionally I'll have a decaf tea with one splenda, And that's maybe once a week at best. I don't know where I'm going wrong. Any suggestions as to how to get this moving? I have a long way to go, and if this doesn't start shifting properly soon...I know I'll give up!

    Thanks!

Thank you so much. I do keep a food journal, so this will be easy.

      -8:00-
-I had a square slice of a sausage and zucchini frittata w/cheese
      -one bottle of water (.5l)

      -12:59-
-2 eggs, scrambled with one chopped slice of bacon
      -slice of bacon on side
      -1 bottle of water (.5l)

      -2:48-
      -1 bottle of water (.5l)

      -5:15-
-Sauteed squash, zucchini and onions in butter (had a craving bad for this)

      -6:11-
      -1 oz of cheese

      -7:30-
      -steak
      -Brussels sprouts with butter
      -1 bottle of water (.5l)

So that was my listing for yesterday.I generally eat between 3-4 meals a day, and drink about 2-2.5l of water a day. If you see anything in there that I need to change, or alter, please, let me know.

      Thanks again!

        Re: Really Struggling Big Time

You are doing very well. What sometimes happen on Atkins is exactly what you are experiencing - inches come off before the scale moved. What happens is as the fat cells shrink they hang on to a bit of water but sooner or later that water will go and the scale will move. Just keep on doing what you are doing.

Why are you so worried about the number on the scale anyways. Unless you have a t-shirt on that says I weight x amount of pounds - people are going to see those inches. Last time I weighed this much I wore size 12 - not with Atkins and exercise I wear size 6 - I am not telling people who congratulate me on my losses that really I weight this amount.

How much do you have to lose? What are your stats.

Your menu was good with the one small problem. You should eat 2 cups salad veggies and 1 cup other veggies. It seems like most of your veggies that day was other veggies. Not a big deal

Good work on the water. Keep that up.

Ok, I can kick up on the salad, not a problem at all. But yea, I started at 226, and now I'm at 217 or so. Just feels like I should be loosing so much more. But, ok. If it'll come off eventually...I'll be all happy with it. I have got to get down to a respectable weight soon...I have health problems right now that include my heart. That's why this extreme version of a diet, and the necessity. I'm just going down hill fast...and I'm only 32, 5'3".

dev I know how you are feeling, hang in there. I did lose alot last month but have been stuck at the exact same pound and a half for 3 weeks now. It is frustrating, but so is the alternative; feeling like garbage, clothes too tight, aches and pains, out of control eating, self loathing. We've all been there. We all struggle with weight loss but are also in the same boat about being comitted to doing something about it. I've got a loooong way to go, but like anything worth doing, will take my lumps and plateaus and keep on going. Good luck to you, I think your diet looks great! Better than I am doing (don't tell anyone but I hate vegetables). By the time you are 38 like me, you will have forgotten all about the fat and love the new thinner more active life you have.

              Re: Really Struggling Big Time

Atkins for me is a head-game. It does not outwardly make sense but it works. For me, I have to celebrate each moment of the day - celebrate that I have made the right decision not to eat a bag of popcorn at that moment , celebrate that my pee smells like induction, etc. It truly is a moment by moment way of eating. You are doing well! Congratulate yourself! My advise is to stay away from the scale and measure your success on how your clothes feel and how you are feeling - more energetic? happier? in control?
You can do this but there truly are no quick fixes - it takes discipline and faith that if you do the right thing, you will be rewarded!! Stay strong!! You can do this!

                Re: Really Struggling Big Time

I sure do appreciate this post.

I have gained back one of my twelve pounds lost and it's been back for four days. Very discouraging.

My supplements are 7 carbs. I am going to have to cut them back. I am also going to have to start watching my calories. Too many days I am eating around 2,000.

This morning I was so depressed by the weight gain that I almost chucked the whole thing. I walked by the coffee pot where DH had a fresh pot made, and came very close to pouring myself a cup.

But then, instead, I started boiling the water to make my decaffeinated coffee in the french press. Good. Crossed that hurdle.

I use food as a medicine. When I'm lonely, sad, frustrated, irritated.... almost any emotion gets treated with another dose of food.

Granted the food is legal, but there is just too much of it. And above all, I do hate feeling deprived.

So I am cutting back. Will try to stay busy doing other things so I don't think about all the legal food that I still can work in the rest of the day.

Good luck devonaravenhold. Just try to keep in mind that all kinds of good things are happening inside your body, and eventually it will be evident to all on the outside. That's what I tell myself, anyway.

                  Re: Really Struggling Big Time

You say that you have health problems, are you on any medications? These could be stalling your weight loss. Not that I want to give you to give them up, but it could be a factor.

How do your jeans feel? Are they getting bigger?? So many of us have just stopped stepping on the scale because it is to frustrating to see that it does not move...but I dont have to lay on the bed to zip my jeans anymore... so something is working.

Just keep going the wooshie fairy will stop by soon and give you a much needed reward. Please keep trying...we didnt gain this weight in a day - we are not going to take it off in a day either.

                    Re: Really Struggling Big Time

Hi there - I really would focus on the inches - aren't they more important than a scale number that involves SO many other variables other than fat such as water, cells, muscle, etc.? I am only weighing myself once a month now and just doing measurements as the true proof of success. Being a 'scale slave' was making me nuts and tempted to cheat! It's just a number - keep telling yourself that and it doesn't mean anything! YOU ARE SHRINKING - remember that.....

Hi! Stay strong - keep on doing what you are doing - you're obviously doing something right! This is a quote from my favorite post on this forum:

"All the scales in the world are broken:
As an Atkineer, you may as well get used to the fact that all the scales in the world are broken. I went from a size 22 to a size 16 and no scale showed a weight loss. Nevertheless, when I went to Ross to buy a new pair of jeans, I was astounded to discover the plus sizes would no longer fit me and the same thing is going to happen to you.

You can lose inches and even drop down complete sizes and still remain the exact same weight on the scale. "

                      Keep on keepin on!
