1 ounce of nuts or seeds.

Be careful though, portion control is very hard for some people--in fact that's one of the biggest complaints with the OWL Nut Rung--some folks can't control themselves and they go nuts on the nuts.

By the way, if the nuts bring on any of your blood sugar symptoms, drop them from your menu. Use the Blood Sugar Symptom Test in Chapter 13 as a gauge.

I think nuts are only on the OWL not for extended induction. Extended induction is acceptable veggies,
Maybe, you should think about starting up the ladder as nuts include nut butters etc and if your careful and go by the book, you should continue to lose weight.

we have discussed it in this forum before...it was one of the mods I believe who said they were adding in nuts to their diet during an extended induction...like Megs said...it's hard to stick to the portion size for alot of us so it really is a personal choice...

Dr. A did indeed allow nuts after the first 14 days of Induction. I didn't initally include them in my Extended Induction, but I have since then. Portion control, like everyone says, is key.
After the first two weeks of Induction, when you can introduce nuts and seeds into your menus, you will find they make excellent snacks and often an unexpected and tasty ingredient in an entree or vegetable dish.
          p.62
Eat absolutely no fruit, bread, pasta, grains, starchy vegetables or dairy products other than cheese, cream or butter. Do not eat nuts or seeds in the first two weeks. Foods that combine protein and carbohydrates, such as chickpeas, kidney beans and other legumes, are not permitted at this time.

My guess is the nut rung is for those moving right in to OWL after their 2 week induction, and for those who don;t want to add nuts in an extended?

I'm gonna disagree with sayng nuts are okay for extended induction. Technically speaking, extended induction is just what it says- extended induction. Its when you stay on induction for a longer period of time. If you are adding anything extra, you are not on induction.
If you are eating off the acceptable foods list for induction, thats not induction. If a food you're eating falls under OWL acceptable foods, you're in OWL. Not to mention, Dr A suggests following the carb ladder when moving into OWL. On this ladder, seeds and nuts are the 3rd rung!
Maybe its just me, but it seems the longer I'm on this board the more leanient some of the rules become? It used to be that induction was induction, period. And then if you stayed on induction, you could possibly add in some extra veggies, but thats it. Not veggies off the induction list, but just extra from the ACCEPTABLE foods list.

Bowulf, I must have a different version of the book than you cuz my pages dont coincide with yours that you listed...what section is your first quote from?
