  • Has anyone checked out the ediet for atkins.

I am hoping that increasing my exercise by 30 minutes a day will help me to loose the last 15 lbs quicker..But sometimes I wonder if increasing my exercise just adds weight to my body since it is fat being turned to muscle..My husband keeps telling me that I really need to sweat during each exercise routine for the fat to be burned up..I had lost 12 lbs since starting the program but now I am back to only 10 lbs lost..I know calorie intack is not suppose to be looked at.
The atkins ediet says for me to be the weight I want to be by May I need to be on a 1,200 to 1,300 diet..That leaves no room for any snacks like hard boiled eggs, or the cheese allotment we are allowed..I find if I am not satisfied with the three meals a day, I want to snack..How do people only eat so little and not be hungary..I have even increased my water intake by two glasses of water so to help me not become hungary for snacks..Help any input appreciated.. :joy

I am leary of diets that cost money, specially as your here with us and know the best way to lose the weight.
Both cardio and weight training is good for the body and weight training particularly will help you put the curves where you want the curves. In the big scheem of things, the scales are the last thing you should be concerned with. The first is your health and how you feel. The second is the mirror and how you look, the third is the tape measure and how many inches that you have lost and lastly the scales.

    41 pounds down and counting

the last time someone mentioned eDiets they also said the site made recommendations that we don't agree with such as use of frankenfoods...not sure if that's still true or not...why use a site that costs when you get great advice here for free?

Fitday always tracked my stats well enough, and the people and support are far superior to anything I would have found on that pay site. People here are paying it forward not being paid to support my weightloss, but that is just an outsider's perspective.

I had a friend who did Ediet's Atkins. She said it was nice to be told what to eat, but that she had to buy a lot more groceries than when she was doing it on her own. She recommended that I go it alone and not waste my money. The Atkins For Life book has I think 120 daily meal plans. I'd go with something like that. Just avoid the frankenfoods.

            i agree

I AGREE WITH DESERTHORN, DIETS THAT COST MONEY NORMALLY DON'T LAST, EITHER U GET TIRES AND HAVING TO BUY THEIR PRODUCTS OF U GET TIRED OF GIVING UP UNECCESSARY MONEY.

I bought DANDR and a carb count book for next to nothing. I pay no monthly fees. I have these fabulous real people who have walked the walk as well as talk the talk. So why do I want to pay for e-diets? Between Atkins Nutritional and e-diets, too many people have their hands out for something that is pretty simple.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

                debi,

Well, here is my 2 wooden nickels worth of thoughts. lol!

If you are using ediets and still feel hungry and need to do some serious snacking, then obviously, something is very wrong. On Atkins, you eat to feel satisfied, mildly full and to avoid the starve-hunger actions of a low fat diet. Being on Atkins, should free you from that kind of hunger and if it hasn't following it the eDiet's way, I would look at the menu choices, how much you are spending on them and drop them like a lead balloon. I know that eDiets advocate a lot of Atkins products to "help" you lose the weight and you know why? Because eDiets was struggling a few years ago and decided the best way to stay alive was to endorse other weight loss plans, for which of course, they get a substantial fee (Atkins Center made a huge deal with them). They have made a killing on Atkins and South Beach.

Like everyone has said, there is excellent support here for free, the book cost next to nothing (on Amazon, you can get a used but good copy for $.99) and we can help you if you have problems with menus, exercise, etc. No one should have to pay for support or access to bulletin boards, in my opinion, with the internet that has hundreds of them for free. And we are real live people who are doing the "do" and living the walk, so we know what menus and strategies work. Now, to the issue of the 10 lbs...upping your exercise 30 minutes might be a good thing; depending on how much you are doing already. Get in some good cardio for 35 to 40 min will do wonders for you and your weight loss. Plus, if you have read the book, Dr. A says that you need to lose the last 10 lbs very slowly. Now, that may sound kinda sucky but he says this for good reason. Trying to dump 10-15 last pounds quickly could very well backfire in your face in the long run.
Which is another bad thing about eDiets and other programs like it; Atkins is not a time-frame "diet", it is a way of eating that you are adapting for lifetime changes. When you put a time frame on losing this amount or that, you put lots of pressure on yoourself and can be dissappointed when you fail to reach your goal. And what do people who are frustrated do? Give up and say forget and go back to eating the way they were before. Post what your current menus are in the "menu" board and we can tell you why you are still hungery and help you to eat right. So. Just come here, read the book carefully and give eDiet the boot and save your money for a new bikini this summer.

My daughter is doing e-diets (mainly - she has cheated, I can tell).

                  This is mainly because:

She lacks the discipline involved in creating her own menu and sticking to it, I believe.

She says it's customizable. The first diet they gave her involved quite a few pre-made foods (it's not Atkins, it the Bob Green(?) version), and we told her that while we were supportive of her efforts to get her health under control, we were not willing to go out of our way to get pre-made foods.

She then requested a menu that involved cooking her own. That has worked better. For the most part, the items that she requires fit into our lifestyle, too, although we do set aside some for her alone (like we buy large quantities of, for instance, chicken breasts, and she has to debone them and portion them out herself). The reason for this is that she has taken chef training (and please don't say that she could do the menu thing because of this - we know that - she just can do things for others, but when it comes to herself, she doesn't - there's likely some psychological reason, or laziness, but I'm not going there).

                  Anyway, whatever works for you.

Some people can take the book, the allowed food list, and create wonderful combinations.

Some people take the book, the allowed food list - and feel it's absolutely overwhelming.

Could be your previous lifestyle kicking in. Were you good at creating meals from scratch, or did you rely on pre-packaged foods?

Unless you're exceedingly small to begin with, isn't 1200 calories rather low?

I wish you well on your journey to better health and weight loss. Don't worry about the scale. Gaining muscle (and readjusting your weight target) is not a bad thing. It increases your metabolism and helps overall. Why be trapped by a number on the scale?

I've heard that the eDiets version of Atkins isn't as "by the book" as the actual program. Don't quote me on that, but I heard it about one of the major prepackaged diet sites, and I'm pretty sure it's the one.

And as others have said, if it contains FrankenFoods, steer clear. As well as any other ingredients that are hard to find in your area. Are you going to stick with it if you have to import food from somewhere else? Not likely.

I have been doing ediets atkins for 1 month now and love it! I did avoid the bread they said you could have on induction but other than that, it follows atkins by the book from what I've seen. I joined ediets because honestly the book confused me. I have lost, as of today, 13.5 pounds and have been doing atkins for going on 1 month. I also love that it has a virtual trainer and it keeps track of my measurements. Also you can talk with Certified Atkins dieticians.

I know it's not for everyone but I find it makes my life easier. Less thinking involved for me and that is good because I have 4 small children lol

                          e-diets

Ok, I weighed 260 pounds, when I checked out e-diets, they said I should eat between 1200-1300 calories a day. You only have 10 pounds to lose and they told you the same thing? Something seems wrong with that. I was on a low fat diet about 8 years ago, I lost 82 pounds eating 1200 calories a day, I couldn't maintain the weight loss BECAUSE I WAS STARVING!!! On Atkins, if I'm hungry, I EAT and to me that feels like a miracle!!! I have lost 13 pounds in one month, my husband has lost 16 pounds and we are never hungry!

I am not on the ediet I was just asking

I am not using the e-diet for atkins I was just looking at it..It was just confusing to me that so many Atkins plans are out there..I am on Atkins the book and exercise and water..I still have a problem with hunger at night but it may be because of habit and some slips I have had on the diet..But I have lost 13 lbs, and put 3 pounds back on due to my own mistakes..But I am planning on hitting my goal weight by May so I will be ready for summer...But I will have to be more disciplined than I am now..I do well for days and then have a slip up.. :joy

                              Thanks Debi!

I had never heard of eDiets. I just signed up and WOW!!! What a great tool in helping me acheive my goals quicker. I love the fact that it gave me a complete list of meals for induction. And if I don't like them, I can change them. It gives all of the nutrition info and everything! So easy. I like the fact that I can choose my menu based on what they have listed which is more than enough and even get a printed out shopping list. Talk about conveinent... I think this will make this WOL much easier for me. Thanks so much for mentioning it! :hug
