  • Induction Breakfast Questions

Hi everyone, this is my first post, I've been lurking for a little while!

Here's the question -- are there any breakfast ideas that don't involve eggs or meat? I tried searching the forums already, I figured this might be a repetetive question, but the search was to no avail.

I'm in college, have to jump up early and run to class -- however, I can't stomach the idea of eggs, bacon, or sausage for breakfast -- not even cheese. Has anyone else had this problem? It makes me nauseous just thinking about those foods in the morning. I find myself skipping breakfast and being hungry until lunch just so I don't have to eat those foods, haha.

If anyone has any ideas, I would be very grateful. I used to eat oatmeal every morning, so this is quite a switch! Thanks guys

Yes, we've heard this question before, but it's good to bring this up once in a while! :yes

You certainly don't have to eat 'breakfast foods' for breakfast! Some folks have tuna salad in the morning, or a bowl of homemade soup and lots of us have leftovers from the night before! I've been known to have pepperoni and radishes, or leftover chicken breast dipped in ranch dressing....Whatever floats yer boat!

Whatever you feel you can stomach in the morning, have it (as long as it's legal foods of course..lol) but please don't skip breakfast! Breakfast gets your metabolism moving and as we are told to not go more than six hours between eating, the morning meal is very important.

Also, you don't have to sit down to a huge breakfast. I was not much of a brekkie person myself, and I started out with just having a couple mouthfuls of whatever I had handy, but I always ate something in the morning.

Since you are up and at'em in the morning, take some time the night before and pack a little breakfast up for yourself to eat on the go. I love love love those re-useable ziploc containers! I made a big batch of meatballs early this week and I've been snacking on them and using them as part of my brekkies and lunches. You could do up salmon cakes and have those with a handful of celery sticks or peppers.

Eat what appeals to you, eat till you are satisfied...but please eat. :yes

I know it has eggs and cheese in it, but I like to eat some quiche cold in the morning. There are lots of recipes on Linda's lowcarb site.

A slice of quiche is very easy to eat when you are in a hurry.

Thank you so much for your suggestions.

Moochiecat, I like your ideas about having cold things to eat, I hadn't thought of that. Leftovers or meatballs, or even cold pepperoni might work a lot better -- cold stuff is easier to handle. Thanks so much!

You might also consider using your 'laxative' ration of flax seeds at breakfast with the flax bread or the induction legal flax cereal. The recipes are lurking around somewhere....

          Both are good.

What is your recipe for pumpkin pie? I haven't tried that yet and it helps to keep it mixed up a bit so not to get bored.

I like to have a protein shake on days when i am working. i found one type that 30 grams of protein and only 4 carbs (i can't remember offhand what the fat content was) per scoop. I'd throw 1 scoop of that into my water bottle and drink it on the way to work. Once i got to work i'd refill the bottle with more ice water, and pour myself 2 cups of herbal tea. talk about 2 fisted drinking all day! by the time i finished work i'd have only about 16 oz of water left to drink to meet my daily quota.

I'd also bring for snacks a little bag of peanuts, a slice or 2 of cheese and some rolled up meat slices. then for lunch I'll have my romaine lettuce and spinach mixed up with a little carb friendly dressing, and a piece of meat, fish, or fowl. for me, lunch is my big meal of the day as in the morning i'm groggy and in a rush to get to work at a stupid-early hour, and in the evening i'm usually at the gym so don't want a bunch of food in my stomach when working out really hard. I'll usually have a snack once i get home before bed. I had to look all around town though to find a brand of protein powder that had the right ratio of protein and carbs.

that pumpkin recipe sounds about right... mine is more guess-as-you-go, and last time it didnt come out so good.... too much cinnamon made it bitter. but usually it's pretty good, and i like it for breakfast cause its not too heavy and greasy

you can mix pumpkin with cream cheese and pie spice and have pumpkin butter on the go too. I use 1 ounce CC 1/4th cup pumpkin and 1/8th t spicemix. others add splenda to thiers.

you can make flax or psyllium pancakes and have them recipes are in our database http://www.lowcarbrecipes.org/ and Naja has many recipes in the low carb cooking school for induction too.

I almost always have cooked turkey in the fridge. My hubby has found that this is a cheap way for me to have plenty of meat. So I have it in little individual servings, some meal sized and some snack sized. So I can grab some as I am going out the door. I also usually cook extra when I cook meat. of course you can have hard boiled eggs in the fridge and take a couple with to eat between classes.

                        Just a couple ideas

I second getting protein shakes. Costco sells a huge bucket of powder and just mix it with water and you're good to go. Get some SF jello or a handful of almonds. You'll have yourself a tasty breakfast!
