  • Can I really have that Pizza?

I've been reading that some folks on here are scraing the toppings off of pizza and eating it. Is this cool? We had Papa John's pepperoni pizza last night, and I was really bummed, but I ate some deviled eggs and a salad and drank my water instead of Mountain Dew with everyone else. CAN I scrape the toppings off of the leftovers and eat it? I was under the impression that the sugar in the tomato sauce would derail me.

Today is my 2 week induction anniversary and I have lost 15 lbs. I don't want to mess up, so since I didn't know, I just stayed away from it, as it isn't worth it to me... but it would be so NICE!

Regular ketchup contains sugar, so it is not allowed on Atkins. It is your choice whether you want to take the risk of scraping the topings off or eat something more Atkins-friendly.

If you want a nice, Atkins-legal pizza, there are a few recipes on Linda's website:

Also popular around here is Cleo's cauliflower pizza:

If you do Cleo's pizza though, watch out how much you eat. It uses 1 cup of mozzarella, which is more that the 4 oz of cheese allowed on induction.

      hi
I think if you're really careful you'll be ok...depends on what the toppings are really.
Here's a recipe for a low carb pizza dough you might like: (if you're not keen on the spices, omit them)

1 cup cooked cauliflower, riced (or process it to death in a food processor)
      1 egg
      1 cup mozzarella cheese
      1/2 tsp fennel
      1 tsp oregano
      2 tsp parsley
      pizza or alfredo sauce
toppings (make sure meats are cooked)
      mozzarella cheese

      Preheat oven to 450 degrees
Spray a cookie sheet with non-stick spray.

In a medium bowl, combine cauliflower, egg and mozzarella. Press evenly on the pan. Sprinkle evenly with fennel, oregano and parsley.
Bake at 450 degrees for 12-15 minutes (15-20 minutes if you double the recipe).
Remove the pan from the oven. To the crust, add sauce, then toppings and cheese.
Place under a broiler (grill for the Europeans) at high heat just until cheese is melted.

I found this recipe by doing a google search...there are pics posted out there as well and it looks amazing!

Ya know what guys? I don't think I want to risk it after all... I made some meatballs with ground beef and sausage, so I think I will just eat them. You see, there was cake at work today, and I REALLY wanted it! I mean, I could smell the sugar. Is that crazy? Anyway, I didn't eat it and, as I was getting out of the car, I thought to myself, Now, was it REALLY that bad? If I had eaten it, I would be feeling sad. But I didn't, and now I feel proud! Sorry if I sound cheesey, I guess I just needed to talk it through to myself.

              The cauliflower pizza is awesome!

Don't tempt yourself with the toppings off of regular pizza it is not worth it. The sauce will kill you it is loaded with sugar. Better to make your own.

Good job on your 15 lb loss. Way to go & keep up the good work. You can do this.

Beth...I think it's so funny how people say this diet is "so unhealthy"...and yet my fridge is packed with more veggies than any other time on any other WOE....there is no way in **** I woulda made a pizza out of cauliflower when I was on WW! LMAO....Cauliflower and Broccoli are staples in my fridge these days.

I personally haven't yet tried the cauliflower pizza. Let me know how it turns out!

Re: Can I really have that Pizza?

After I was on the diet for several 'months' and weight loss had slowed down I would go to an all you can eat pizza place that hardly puts any sauce at all on the pizza and gorge on the cheese and toppings. It always meant that I wouldn't lose anything the next day, but it was fun...

After not having anything sweet for weeks, when you taste the pizza sauce you will know right away if it is too sweet... now I give hubby the pieces that have too much sauce. Depends on the pizza place too... Not all pizzas are created equal...

Take frozen pizza that you cook in your oven... they seem a lot more sugary to me.
