  • End of induction results and story

Well i am now eighteen days into the induction.

    Week 1 8lb loss
    Week 2 7 lb loss

Not weighed since but staying on induction for a while as i am quite happy with things.

Now for the bad part. Aitkins flu. I thought i had had this three days in when i felt mildly ill and had a slight headache, but boy was i wrong. One week in and was in the pub (drinking water) and had to go home with back ache, then every muscle in my body was aching so much and i was sweating buckets. Then it got worse. I had the first migraine of my life. I used to not believe there was a difference between a headache and a migraine but now know otherwise. I spent four days in a dark room, couldn't see straight and felt like something was in my head trying to break out. On the friday felt a bit better and got up.

Still i am not disheartened. Hopefully that's it now and it should get easier, just hope the weight keeps coming off.

I have also had to move in two notches on my belt and this time next weekend will have a clear out of all my old clothes so i am not tempted to accept that size again. I already have loads of normal size stuff i bought and have never worn as i have never been able to get in them.

Good luck to everyone, it can provide fantastic results.

Have you tried those Atkins shakes? They've got potassium & other vitamins in them which might help with the headaches. We were surprised, but they really do fill you up and only have 1 net carb for that meal.

But they do have milk and/or soya in them which is not induction-allowed, Houstonmommy Also they would probably throw out any balance of fats/protein/carbs as they are very high in protein!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

The Atkins company has all the interest to sell its products.

Re: End of induction results and story

What you had at the 3 day mark sounds like normal Atkins response. The fact that it went away? Means your body adjusted...

Then the migraine/back ache that you describe does not sound like Atkins at all... I think it was more of a coincidence in timing... Even caffeine withdrawal is over in 2 days, not 4... Sounds more like a viral thing to me... ??

Hmmmmm. Interesting. Here I was focusing on the 1 Net Gram of carbs in the drinks, and not necessarily the ingredients. I've been having one of these a day on induction, and although I've lost 10 lbs in 9 days, I have seemed to hit a minor "stall" in the last few days (ketostix are showing moderate ketones). I'm glad I caught your post as I didn't give these 1 NG of carbs a second thought.

Kind of bums me out as these shakes were my one and only "sweet" fix at the end of the day. However, my wallet is appreciative.

Lee - congrats on making it through induction. I'm halfway there myself, and I went through similar headaches as you (though not as bad). You're a trooper for sticking it through...

First congrats on the weightloss!! As for the above, the muscle aching sounds like an electrolyte deficiency (potassium specifically). Make sure you are drinking plenty of water. If you are still having these symptoms, you might want to look into taking a potassium supplement (over the counter).

What you had three days in sounds like induction flu. What you had the last few days sounds like a case of hypokalemia or low blood potassium. Atkins diet has an extreme diuretic effect and when all that fluid is leaving your body, you lose a lot of potassium along with it. Low potassium causes tingling, light-headedness, headache, fatigue, muscle aches, deep muscle fatigue and cramps.

You probably should take potassium supplements and use Morton's Lite salt or NoSalt. You will feel better quicker if you use the Lite Salt or NoSalt, because they are pure potassium salts.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.
