  • Help -- sooo tired & kinda frustrated

Pretty much ever since I started Induction, I have found that I am exhausted every day by about 6pm. The problem is that I don't have a 9-5 job!

Most days, I can leave by 7pm, and I just go home and crash for an hour. Once a week I have to work the late shift (until 10pm), and the only way I've been able to do that is sleeping in until 10am. Yesterday I had to work 8am - 9pm due to an event. I was a zombie all evening.

Here's a typical day for me:
8am -- 2 eggs, bacon or turkey sausage
11am -- 2 hb eggs or celery & cream cheese
1:30pm -- salad with meat (the last couple of days I've tried getting 1/2 cup of veggies to up my afternoon carb intake -- so I only do 1/2 cup veggies at night)
    4pm -- 2hb eggs or 2 string cheese sticks
    SLEEP from 7pm to 8 or 9pm
8 or 9pm -- veggies & meat, sometimes with cheese

My meats are mostly, ground beef or chicken, some cold cuts.
I'm drinking more than 64 oz of water a day, and one diet soda around 10am -- no coffee or tea

Crashing at 7 every night is really messing me up. It's harder to actually get to sleep at a decent hour, and my nighttime sleep often feels restless. But I am so physically exhausted when I get home that I can't even fix dinner without sleeping first.

I work in retail, so I'm on my feet a lot (less now that I have an orthopedic boot on for 6 weeks), but I'm a manager, so I do have a desk and probably spend almost 1/2 my day sitting. I've been doing this for 5 years, and it never exhausted me before.

Also, frustratingly, I have lost 0.2 lbs this week. This is day 20 of Induction for me (decided to extend), and I've lost a grand total of 4lbs. I had put on about 6lbs in the few months before I started after staying pretty steady for a few years, so I'm shocked at how little I've been able to lose.

    What can I do???

I would try adding more oils and such... the fat content makes a huge difference with me, both in my energy levels, and in reducing cravings.

      Hope you feel better!

In all honesty, I usually forget to take my multivitamin. I'll certainly try that. Any supplements in particular?

This morning, I woke up with a charlie horse -- odd, because I'm certainly getting enough sodium.

Your fatigue and Charlie horse sound like a potassium and magnesium deficiency. Get some Morton Salt Substitute or NoSalt to get your potassium back up and get a good magnesium supplement and take it every day.

Adding coconut oil will give you quick energy and add a very healthy fat to your diet.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Thanks, Sunny. I just took my multivitamin, which has 50% USRDA of Magnesium. I'll buy some Potassium supplement on the way to work.

Good news is that I just got off the scale & have lost another pound. I was starting to lose hope!

I may be the new guy... but doesn't a Omega-3 supplement look to be in order as well? I didn't see much fish on the diet plan, which leads me to believe she is not getting enough of that as well.

Just adding to what was already said... The supplements recommended by Dr. Atkins are a multivitamin without iron, chromium and essential oils. He then mentions a few additional ones, based on specific problems (high metabolic resistance, fatigue, insomnia, etc.). You can find this in Chapter 23.

I'm a teacher, and I'm usually at school until way in the evenings as well! I feel your pain. And wow, our goals and stats are similar!

Decaf coffee is great for me during times when I am sluggish. It still has a teeny-tiny jolt of caffeine, and can have a placebo effect if you are a coffee lover!

I also recommend coconut oil, and when you are closer to your goal, you can work in incorporating almonds or other low carb nuts that are packed with slow-releasing energy!

People today rely on sugary, caffeinated junk food to get them through their days! I really think we are eating the natural way, and that our bodies will adjust over time! Hang in there!

Thanks, Georgiana. I'll read Chap 23 tonight.

bikinidreams -- we do have similar stats/goals! 125 is awfully ambitious. maybe when i'm closer to 135 i can consider that. you've got a wedding to motivate you -- that's some serious motivation!

i was underweight for my wedding, just due to the stress. then again when i got divorced (also stressed). but ever since then, i guess i became a stress eater. ugh.

congrats for making it into the 160s! i'm aiming for that right now -- currently 171.4. let's keep in touch!

I dont think i could get a Potassium supplement....just go to the saly isle and get the no salt salt stuff. Put a little on an egg and your good to go because you levels will balance back out unless you had a medical reason your potassium is low. You would know by now if you did. Also, i find the first week or so to be that hardest because so many changes are happening in your body. You body is starting to use a different energy sourse. Also...try drinking a little more water and cuting out the coke. Start by drinking less and less of that soda everyday.

hang in there...its worth getting your life back.

Re: Help -- sooo tired & kinda frustrated

I'm having a similar reaction to induction, I am on week three and am suffering horrible insomnia. I am physically drained and feel almost drunk with exhaustion, to the point that I have been taking prescription sleep aids at night--to no avail. I've probably slept 8 hours over the past three days.

Help! It's already led to a one pound gain and after all this hard work and carb abstinence, that's the last thing I want!
