  • HELP-- Week 3 on Induction and no weight loss

    Hi,

I'm going into my 4th week on Induction and I have not lost any weight. My start weight is 203-- My goal weight is 140.

I must be doing something wrong--any suggestions?

Here are some of the foods that I've been eating most frequently.
Taco meat (seasoning has 2 carbs/ serving)
    Salad- oil and vinegar
    Sharp cheddar cheese
    eggs
    sour cream (1 carb/ 2 TBSP)
    grilled salmon
    tuna salad- mayo only
atkins dark chocolate shakes (2 net carbs)
    bacon
    dill pickles
    banana and jalepeno peppers
baked chicken- topped with French's fried onions (3 carbs/ serving)

I've only been doing light exercise 3-4 times a week.

Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong?!? This is so discouraging.

Hmm I'm gonna say the Atkins shakes and the French's onions are bad. Are you eating any vegetables? Most of your daily 20g of carbs should be coming from vegetables. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to post the approved list.

Also read the post that was just bumped on here about how you can lose inches but not pounds. It's all very scientific and has to do with water retention.

Edit: Here's the post on why you might not show pounds lost.

    Short term goal: 330

Since you're posting in the Phase 1 forum I'm assuming you are on induction.

There are no shakes allowed on induction. Also, there is no taco seasoning allowed either. The French's fried onions are also not allowed. Do you have the DANDR book?

atkins shakes are from the atkins company, not from the late dr. its a marketing ploy. no frankenfoods allowed, so no shakes, no bars etc. anything that says hey i'm sweet and chocolaty and i wont hurt you at all is most likely lying.

Ok, no taco seasoning, no shakes, and no fried onions...

I'm going to give this another week or two.

              Thanks for all the feedback!!

I don't have the DANDR book...I just got the info on the internet of acceptable foods. I thought as long as you stayed under the 20 carbs a day, it was acceptable.

you might want to try upping your fat too. try fattier cuts of meat, coconut oil, or eggs, and try getting in 1 cup of the other list of veggies cooked in butter, it'll up your fat as well as your carbs and fiber.

rr, Linda's Low Carb Recipes has a recipe for taco salad, along with a recipe for legal taco seasoning. I think it tastes better than any I've bought...

Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes

French's fried onions are definitely NOT allowed because they are coated with breading. Also, during induction, it's best to stick to green onions (scallions) because they are much lower in carbs.

The shakes have soy and other ingredients that are not allowed on induction.

Recheck your list of what foods are allowed in induction, then do as Dr. Atkins said, and eat NOTHING that is not on the list.

That should get you off to a successful start.

                  Good luck!

                    rr12341,
It is frustrating with you stall!! I am just went to the OWL part. The Dr. Atkins books really help. I rented mine from the Library and have read it from cover to cover, its very helpful, more so from what the internet says. I thought the shakes were fine too because they said phase one friendly, but, they aren't darn it!! Keep chugging the water, it really helps,.. alot. Good Luck. The weight loss will start catching up. Dont lose hope! YOu'll do great!

Try and get yourself a used copy of the 2002 DANDR from Amazon or a used book store. The newer version of Atkins allow things on inducation that stall some people....As others have said, think whole foods.....You can make some of your own shakes on induction, but you need to follow the induction rules/allowed foods. I have made myself shakes from unsweetened protein powder, a little ice, a little cream ( not exceeding allowable limit) and splenda and cocoa. The protein powder will hold you....You could also use eggs in a shake if you dont have protein powder, but if you do, make sure they are the liquid pasturized eggs that they sell in cartons at the store to avoid the risk of getting sick. I recently got one of those little magic bullet blender things and it makes creating shakes a breeze and with fast cleanup!

You can make your own taco seasoning..without the carbs! After browning your meat, mix in cumin, coriander, and chili powder to taste. Can also add in a little curry powder if you have it on hand. A lot of those taco seasonings you buy from the store have sugar in them. This could be stalling your weight loss too. Check the label for sugar! Since starting atkins I always do this! And anyways, it tastes better when you cook it yourself! good luck

If you wants to decrease your weight then you should eat fewer Taco meat and baked chicken.

Both taco meat and baked chicken are perfectly acceptable on Atkins.

kib, may I ask why you're a fan of coconut oil? I've been reading some of the literature regarding coconut oil, and in addition to consisting of 90% saturated fat (unlike beef fat which contains a good mixture of sat and monunsat) it seems to be pretty potent in regards to raising serum cholesterol, LDL, and triglycerides (although this effect is probably attenuated somewhat by low insulin levels during low carb).

I know atkins is a 65% fat macronutrient diet and I realize saturated fat isn't nearly as bad as it's portrayed in the mainstream, but it seems like we should be encouraging consumption of primarily monounsaturated and omega-3 fatty acids.
