I have yet to fing either of these 2 without both : sugar and sodium nitrites they both are usually in these and sausage as well. Anyone else have any luck finding these? I bought some Oscar Meyer "Natural" hot dogs which do not have sodium nitrite but the have "evaporated cane juice" which is pretty much sugar!!

Re: Bacon and Hot dogs???
It is not pretty much sugar--it is 100% sugar! That's the process by which they take sugar cane and produce table sugar. I refuse to buy any product from any company that tries to hide sugar behind a euphemism or semantics. Sugar by any other name is still sugar.Originally posted by Cristela75 View PostI have yet to fing either of these 2 without both : sugar and sodium nitrites they both are usually in these and sausage as well. I can find bacon without sugar, but not without nitrates. I can find bacon without nitrates, but it has sugar. The only hot dogs that I find with no sugar is Hebrew National Beef.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Re: Bacon and Hot dogs???
You're in Southern Cali?? I'm jealous! Do you have a Trader Joe's near you? I'm in a ridiculous rural area in Tennessee and I have found sugar free bacon at one small grocery store. I shop at this store and WalMart for groceries. I don't like going to 2 different places but I have to to keep it all legal. As for the hot dogs, hmmm, they're not a great choice. There are some people here who love them. I just find I don't lose as much weight when I eat them. However, if you love them, you are not alone. Here's an older post.

Re: Bacon and Hot dogs???
It's almost impossible to find at most stores. I love shopping at the Walmart grocery store here, but have to go elsewhere for bacon. In Arizona, there are two stores where I can find sugar-free nitrate-free bacon. The first is called Fresh N' Easy, and the other is called Sprouts. The only place that will carry such an item is a health food store. Keep searching! Good luck!

Re: Bacon and Hot dogs???
I eat Nathan's hot dogs....they have sorbitol but I like them better than Hebrew Natural brand. I eat no sugar brand of bacon from Walmart but it does have nitrates. I don't eat either more than once a week and watch everything else I eat that day to make sure I don't gain any weight. I also have gone from eating 2 hot dogs to eating one .Carole_____________________May Water 130oz daily

Yes, I shop at Trader Joes all the time! I love it. I find their dairy products are made from cows not treated with rBST & eggs are free of hormones & antibiotics and they are even cheaper than the other grocery stores.
I can do without either one for most part but every once in a while I do want a hot dog or some bacon (it would be nice). I've had hot dogs maybe 1 or 2 times since starting Atkins and I have not had any bacon because I have not found any without Nitrates.

Re: Bacon and Hot dogs???
If you can find bacon with nitrates that's sugar free, go ahead and get it. I really don't believe it will affect your results at all. Dr. A didn't like nitrates but wasn't his objection to it mostly about it being a known carcinogen? I'm getting my book out of my purse. I don't think it will stall you. I love Splenda but quite frankly, I'm not convinced of it's safety long term on my health either. I'll read DANDR for awhile and get back to you on this.

Re: Bacon and Hot dogs???
Nature's Promise brand hot dogs are sodium nitrite free and have one gram of carb per dog. Can't recall if the ingredients say dextrose and can't check right now. I've seen them at Stop and Shop and Giant Center.- M/37

I buy Nathan's at the regular grocery store or Walmart - they are usually next to Hebrew National brand up on the top shelf.Carole_____________________May Water 130oz daily
