  • Any Protein Drinks ???

I can't remember what the book says and just honestly to lazy to go look for the moment.
But does anyone know of a protein drink from anywhere that can be used during introduction?

    Thanks,
    Amanda

Amanda, I use the whey protein powder with 1.5 carbs per scoop. It is legal on the dairy rung (OWL 2), but not in induction.

I see that you are on extended induction. Whenever you move up through OWL 1 (more veggies) and then onto OWL 2, you can have it.

I know many are against the Atkins shakes, but my husband & I drink one of these for breakfast each morning and have been having great weight loss.

I believe the EAS vanilla ones have 1 carb and the Atkins Vanilla & Chocolate have 2 carbs. I just noticed that Slim Fast came out with their own version of it which also has 2 carbs. Both flavors w/those brands taste good if chilled.

Beware though. I've heard many people on here say that they're against them b/c they contain soy & milk products.

Our experience with them has been positive. They fill us up and are extremely low carb. The cheapest place to buy them appears to be at Sam's Club.

Our local HEB is running a clearance on the Slim Fast ones. A 4 pack was just a little over $3.

Wow! What an idea! The thing that pushed me off the cliff years back was one happy Christmas where I fed myself, um, over a gallon of eggnog over several days. Maybe a little more.

When is that allowed on Atkins ! ?

Thanks for that! How many do you allow yourselves and do you have anything else with them for breakfast?

I just tried one of the vanilla Slim Fast shakes today, and you're right, I was scolded for it here on this site. My weigh in tomorrow will tell me if I made a mistake. But at 11 ounces, they tend to offer more bulk for the stomach to sense.

Again, do you have just one for a meal? Or do you combine other eats?

There is an Induction-friendly eggnog recipe in the "Atkins Diet (Extended) Induction" forum.

It's not only about the carb count, but about ingredients too. That is why Dr. Atkins wrote that we should read the nutritional label and the list of ingredients.

On Atkins, we should get most of our calories from fat, because the Diet is a high fat one, not high protein. With 20 g of protein and 9 g of fat per shake, the Slim Fast shakes do not quite fit the Atkins way of eating.

Personally, eating 6 oz of meat and a veggie side would leave me more satisfied than drinking 11 oz of anything. "Real" food is what Dr. Atkins supported, not meal substitutes.

How did it work out for you? Today was the first time I received notice that a reply had been made on this thread or I would have responded sooner.

We have 1 for breakfast and then eat lunch between 11am - 2pm depending on how hungry we are that day. If you are concerned about not receiving enough fat, maybe try to snack on something little and high in fat with your shake.

Whether or not the shakes are Atkins friendly is debatable on here. Perhaps we're not doing the "true" Atkins diet any longer b/c of the trace amounts of milk or soy, but it's irrelevant to us. We're just happy to be losing the weight and the convenience of these has helped us to get closer to our goals.

Good luck with your weight loss!!!
