  • This is about when I usually quit....Help! Boost needed please

Hello all. Today makes exactly 7 weeks since I started and I have lost exactly 20 pounds. I'm happy about the 20 pounds. I don't really feel different, or lighter, but I am finding it harder to resist the temptations around me. So here's my plan....

Instead of thinking "one more pound"....I will now start thinking "one more week". If I can just do this for another week....then another month. It took me about eight years to put most of this weight on. I know myself, and I know now is about the time I always flake out on diets in the past. I am one of those people who tends to weigh myself daily (I know most people believe that's a bad idea), and I will try not to weigh again until next Wednesday, which will be eight weeks for me.

I know I'm rambling....but I really feel myself slipping lately and could use some encouragement. I know myself....and I know you guys have been here before. Please help. Big group hug needed!!!

Barb, don't quit now - did you know that you've lost 22% of the weight you want to lose? That's fantastic! I'm never sure if I can stay on a "diet" long-term (well, I never have) because I can't imagine giving up ice-cream and other things forever...but this site has SO MANY amazing recipes and such great support, and you CAN have sugar-free ice-cream! You don't even have to wait until maintenance - its OWL Rung 2 (I think that's the dairy rung). Maybe try changing something a bit - try some new recipes or a different kind of exercise - something to keep it fresh.

Are you still on induction? Maybe you should move to OWL rung 1. There are several threads about moving to rung 1 when you get 'stuck' in induction.

You have nothing to gain by going off diet... except all your weight back plus ten more pounds... if your lucky enough to stop at ten pounds.

One thing that might give you some perspective....

Find a 20 lb object that you can pick up and hold... or put 20 pounds worth of something (books would work) in a pillow case and carry it around with you for a while. See how quickly you get tired of lugging that extra weight around.

Sayings we often hear... "I've tried every diet out there and they all fail" It's true for the most part... diets are hard and most are very hard to stay on...

Not true for Atkins... it's easy to stay on, BUT you have to have the motivation...

You HAD the motivation when you started, so what has changed? What thoughts are going around in that head of yours that are trying to sabotage you?

Barbin, are you still on induction? If so, moving on to OWL will open up your choices and make it a lot easier to stay on Atkins.

No you can't stop now...you have lost 20 lbs!!!!! I am the same way but it is usually when I stall out that gets me....I think if we encourage each other, we can get this done once and for all...when I eat those other foods it makes me feel sluggish and acid refluxy and ill...they aren 't good for us and I know you can get through this slump...so many here have..that is what I am telling myself...look up a new meal that is on the plan and make it...make something new every week...have one day to experiment and get it done so you can be looking forward to that day when you will try something new...all the rest of the week be looking and researching...that might help...

Thank you SO much!!! I actually had tears come into my eyes when I just read your responses!!! I WILL keep going and you guys have helped me more than you know today.

I've had some family drama going on, and as an emotional eater, it's made it very hard to stay the course. But your response has knocked me back to reality. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I would be willing to bet money that if you quit, you will end up heavier than before and it will be MUCH more difficult to lose it the next go around.Instead of considering quiting, kick it up another notch or two by staying or going back into induction.Sounds like the taste of carbs have you wavering.

Re: This is about when I usually quit....Help! Boost needed please

I am like that too. I get bored easily, with everything not just with Atkins. When I had my successful weight loss with Atkins in the 90s, I was SUPER busy - I had a new baby, I was going to school full time, I had hobbies that I could devote spare time to. I found that by keeping busy, I didn't really think about not Atkins-ing, I just got up every morning and kept plugging along.

This time I've taken on a huge work project that I'm like on FIRE with excitement over, and so my free time is taken up by that project and of course my kids and their activities and other things that keep me busy. This in combination with the fact that Atkins prevents me from craving food or really being hungry... lets me overcome that boredom hurdle that it seems like you might be having too.

                    I hope this helps!

instead of eating everytime something happens get up and walk - or vacuum the floor, clean out a few drawers, drink another large glass of water .... you have to learn to do something other than use the excuse you are an emotional eater -- you are the one controlling what goes into your mouth - emotion is no reason to go off plan. Pick yourself up and stop thinking this is a "diet" -- it's a way of eating -- a way of life -- another hour, day, week, month...it's your life - you need to get control of it.

                      Good luck
