  • Stalled for 3+ weeks in Extended Induction

    I am beyond frustrated.

I've stayed in Induction for almost 7 weeks now because the scale was just not moving. Actually, I guess I've had some Rung 1 days in the past week or so -- trying to add more high-fiber veggies to see if that would help.

Well, I am STUCK. In 7 weeks, I've lost a total of 5 lbs. In the past 3 weeks, I've done nothing but lose & re-gain the same pound or so.

I check my Ketostix 2 times a day -- definitely still in ketosis.

Since Sunday, I've been on the Candida Diet -- so I cut out all cheese, vinegar, caffeine, artificial sweeteners, mushrooms, etc and I've added probiotics and psyllium.

I even went to my doctor yesterday -- he laughed at the whole Candida idea, but suggested I take Miralax to help with my constipation problem. I did that yesterday afternoon, and since then, I have probably passed the equivalent of 3 Hershey Kisses.

But the scaled DOES NOT MOVE!!!! In fact, I'm back to my highest point since this stall started.

Everyone is telling me to go off Atkins because it is not working for me -- my doctor, the health food store guy, my brother (who is a trainer & pushed me to do this in the first place).

I am at my wits end -- literally. PLEASE HELP!

I'm still gonna put my bet on Candida. I'm curious though... why did your doctor laugh at the idea? I find that kinda puzzling.

By the way, could you also provide a link to your FitDay? So that we see calories and everything.

I've moved this thread to the "Atkins Diet (Extended) Induction" forum.

I am really having a hard time losing weight too. I am not sure why. I am excersising 6 days a week, but have not lost any weight in about 10 days. I am starting to get frustrated.
So - no advice, I just feel your pain!

Goal of 209 tomorrow morning.Been 210 to 215 all week.210.5 this morning.Doing everything right in my eating. My clothes fit great and are getting looser.Hard not to get swept up in scales but bottom line is do what you are supposed to and you will continue in right direction.Probably not going to reach goal this week but I bet I will catch up just when I least expect it.

Have you been checking your measurements. This woe can be deceptive in that its the tape measure and not the scale that goes down sometimes.

            Georgiana,

I have not been keeping up with Fitday -- just too busy. I can repost what I've been eating, if that would help -- or rather, what I was eating up until Sun.

The last time I did Fitday, my calories were about 1750, 65-70% fat, 25% protien, 7-10% carbs. I continued to eat basically the same things.

Since Sunday, I've cut out a lot of stuff (see prev post), so it's probably been harder to get enough fat. I'm trying to each Coconut Oil daily and get enough fat with my protein. Since Sunday:

            Breakfast
2 eggs cooked in butter and/or coconut oil
ground beef or steak or flax seed/psyllium husk mush (cereal)

            Snack
1/2 avocado or 2 hb eggs

            Lunch
2 cups salad w/chicken (skin on) & lemon dressing
or steak & veggies (like brussel sprouts)

            Dinner
            same as lunch
pumpkin induction treat (pumpkin, cream cheese, flax seed, coconut oil)

            Supplements
Probiotics, Candistroy & 1-2 tsp Psyllium Husks 2x day

My doctor laughed (nicely) at the Candida thing because I don't have a yeast infection or thrush and because there is no scientific proof at all for the spit test. In fact, I started doing more research on it, and even Dr. Weil thinks it's bunk: Concerned About Candidiasis?

For ever web site touting the spit test, there are at least as many claiming it is quack science -- listed on QuackWatch.com as dubious.

The doctor offered to do a stool sample for candida, but I haven't been able to produce enough stool to do that -- not even close.

I figure that at least the Candida Diet + probiotics + psyllium can't be doing any harm, so I'm sticking with it for now. (Besides, I already invested in the supplements)

              emmie,

I can pretty much tell my measurements haven't changed. My clothes still don't fit. And the mirror doesn't lie.

I'm in intermittent thinking mode, sorry... How many net carbs have you been eating in, let's say, the past week? Can you break them down per days? Same question for calories and for your fat/protein/carb percentages.

Re: Stalled for 3+ weeks in Extended Induction

I don't have the book with me right now -- I lost about 4 lbs in the first 2 weeks.

Net carbs about 20-30 (on high veggie days). I don't know my breakdown of percentages per day. No journal -- just eating the same things I was originally putting into FitDay in consistent amounts. If anything, I've probably cut back 100-200 calories because I was less hungry, so eating less bacon in the morning, for instance.

how consistently have you been eating the pumpkin treat, and have you tried eliminating it for a few days to see what happens?

Also, what's your exercise routine like? Still having the foot issue? Maybe the lack of ability to exercise is the key ingredient here.

I haven't exercised since before Christmas. I still have the foot issue, and will have the boot on for at least another month.

I don't have the pumpkin treat everyday -- but most days. It's the easiest way to get in the flax and/or psyllium fiber I need. It's also a 1/2 cup of veggies, which is good. It's awfully hard to imagine giving it up -- it's the only 'enjoyable' thing I eat!

Hmmmm. I would think even w/o exercise, you'd be in ketosis and losing a little more rapidly than you have. Are you adding any sucralose to the pumpkin dessert?

What about your water intake vs sodium intake?

I'm adding Stevia to the pumpkin. I'm following the Candida Diet, so no cheese, vinegar, sweeteners, mushrooms, milk, etc. It's Atkins, just slightly stricter.

I check my Ketostix twice a day -- certainly in ketosis.

Water = approx 100 oz a day. I've cut out my 1 diet soda a day.
Sodium is pretty low because I'm eating almost NOTHING processed -- certainly lower than it has ever been.
