  • Three weeks Induction/First week OWL...Craving MILK

    Hi all,
I finished three weeks of a clean induction, and moved into my first week of OWL (more veggies only), and thus far things have went very smoothly.

Unfortunately, as of yesterday, I have constantly been dreaming/obsessing about a glass of skim milk.

I find this weird as I am not a big milk drinker, and usually my cravings are more along the lines of a loaf of country french bread or a bag of Doritos.

I have no desire to eat any of my past 'problematic foods', and have absolutely no cravings for them (bread products, pizza, sugary stuff). I tell you though...my desire to have a glass of milk is killing me.

Although I understand that this is not allowed until rung two, and I have only been in rung 1 for not even a week, what's the best way to handle this. For some reason I feel like my body is telling me it's missing something, but I don't know if that's my imagination.

I've tried drinking tons of water to alleviate this craving (6 litres already today), but that doesn't seem to be helping. Is this all in my mind?

Maybe you need something that is in milk - like calcium? Do you take supplements? Would cheese help?

Cravings come and cravings go... Even when you get to rung 2 you still aren't going to get a glass of milk...

The closest I have come to something milky is a protein shake made with heavy cream, whey and water... Not quite the refreshing feeling as a tall cold glass of milk though...

I craved oatmeal for a couple of weeks... thankfully it's gone now

according to fitday one half cup (4 fluid ounces) of skimmed milk has about 6 net carbs, so your 'glass' would have to be a small one
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Why not mix some water with heavy cream? You could even add a dash of vanilla or SF vanilla syrup for more flavor. Not skim milk, I know, but could take away the craving.

Re: Three weeks Induction/First week OWL...Craving MILK

Thanks all. Your suggestions are well taken. Although this morning I thought I was 'over it', once again (mid-afternoon) the craving is back, but somewhat different.

I don't know if I should call it a 'craving' or not, as my major issue is that I FEEL dehydrated. You know that feeling you get when you haven't had enough water or if you drink to much tea/coffee? That is how I feel, although once again, today I am up to about 3.5-4 litres of water, so I can't believe dehydration is an issue.

Really weird feeling, not in a bad way, but in a 'I drank too much last night' way...and I haven't had a drink in months!!!

Anyone else feel like this, and what by chance may be the cause (I take vitamins and calcium, drink plenty of water, etc.)

Is this a sign of detox still?

It may just be. Atkins writes that we really have to pay attention to certain cravings. In some cases we may actually be intolerant to the food we crave. Have you ever noticed any tendency to lactose intolerance.

If this craving is hard to deal with eat a snack that you feel good about. Look into getting L-glutamine supplement. It may help as well.
