  • Disappointing 4 week weigh in

I refrained all week from weighing. This was a major accomplishment for me. I am a bit of a compulsive weigher. The first 2 weeks I lost 16 pounds. The third week I gained a pound. Now I weighed myself this morning for my four week weigh in and I haven't lost a thing. I measured and have not lost any inches either. I guess it's time to evaluate my menu and see where the problem may lie. I do still have my morning cup of caffienated coffee.I do not see myself giving that up. ( I have 5 month old twins who refuse to sleep through the night) I also do still have aspartame on occasion, but rarely. (crystal light) I mostly drink water.100 oz daily. Hmmm, maybe I should try cutting out the cheese? I consumed 3-4 oz daily my first two weeks and lost 16 pounds. Could it still cause me problems? I don't know what else to do. Confused. Any suggestions? Trying to not get discouraged. Could this still be post induction stall? Thanks

No suggestions? Okay. Guess I'll figure it out.

Oops, sorry we've missed your post.

It is perfectly normal not to lose weight every week and this is even more common for those who stay longer in Induction instead of moving to OWL. A stall is defined as 4 consecutive weeks with no weight loss or loss of inches... so lucky you, you're not there yet.

The aspartame should go. Dr. Atkins wrote it should be avoided "whenever possible". You don't need to drink Crystal Light, so it is possible to avoid aspartame, which means that is what you should do if you want to get the best results.

Caffeine. Some people are not stalled by it at the beginning of their Atkins, but the caffeine interferes with their weight loss after a while. Also, caffeine can cause weight gain even though it is low in carbs and calories, as studies have shown it contributes to insulin resistance. Some people are affected more than others, so it's something you'll have to decide for yourself.

I think you're fine with the cheese. As I've said, pauses in weight loss are perfectly normal and you will only set yourself up for disappointment if you have a preconceived version of how your weight loss should progress.

Don't worry and just keep doing the plan correctly. Happy Atkinsing!

You had a great loss, now your body has to catch up before it can start again... It's hard waiting, and very discouraging... exercising helps because it makes you feel like you are actually doing something to help the situation... but your body is the boss, and like it or not, it's not budging until it wants to

Thanks for your responses. That is pretty much what I figured, but I need a second opinion. I will definately stop with the aspartame. Gonna have a hard time with the coffee though, lol. Think maybe I will stick with my one cup in the morning to keep my sanity. It is so hard to be patient and let my body adjust. I guess I just got over- excited when 16 pounds flew off in two weeks and then WHAM..big ugly brick wall. Maybe I should stay away from the scale for two weeks instead of one so I don't get discouraged. That's gonna be really hard for me though. Maybe I should have my fiance hide it, lol. Thanks again!!

            Hello

Stress can also have a lot to do with it. I know it's hard with 2 brand new little ones, but try to chill out, definitely cut back on the cheese and sweetners, and see what happens. You may also need to ramp up the exercise a bit. Have you been switching it up, or pretty much doing the same routine? If it's the same old routine, you may need to jolt your metabolism with something new.

            Good luck.....

Those are good suggestions you got there. I also think this is a very normal Post induction stall (piss). You do not just have coffee in the morning? You have a breakfast too? right?
