  • I need chocolate!!

Anyone know any good chocolate recipes that can be eaten on induction? I'm sort of new and after finding out that I can't have the shakes or bars anymore (major mistake I know) I feel like I need something sweet. HELP!

Chocolatey snacks or even just a crunchy snack for induction?????

Sounds like a general case of munchies, not a need for chocolate. Have you tried pork skins (my favorite is the washpot / hard style, with cayenne)

Also, if you don't give in to the sweettooth, the cravings for sweetness should subside, till even good water tastes sweeter.

Chocolate failed to make it to the allowed food list in the Atkins book. I don't know what he was thinking.
Yes I agree with Boonie - if you have a craving like that it may be a problem food for you or a trigger. You need to think about what you can do about it. You want to overcome it, not give in to it.

Also sometimes it means you need to take a magnesium supplement.

I looked at his bars and on the label it says you can use certain ones on all 4 stages.
But I am afraid to. Also the shakes are supposed to be also.
My book is supposed to come tomorrow? I will check it.

                Re: I need chocolate!!

Well those bars and shakes are usually trouble. Many people stall with them. And although the company that sells them claims them to be OK they do not contain only legal items. You're better off not introducing them on induction. Maybe later you can carefully try and see how you do with them.

                      Re: I need chocolate!!

Here's a conversation I had with Georgianna regarding cocoa. I wanted to share it with you because I hadn't realized that cocoa is a spice and was allowed during Induction, but only during Rung 3. Apparently it is. I learned something after 5 years in this woe, LOL
So maybe mix up some cocoa with cream cheese and splenda and make a treat with it to surpass your chocolate fix.
As suggested, it's best not to feed the sweet cravings. It's best to starve them out. If you don't feed them they'll disapate after a week. Also, by taking L-Glutamine it will help fight sweet cravings.
                      Here's the conversations G and I had-

                      Hi Sherri.

There is a list of "Suggested Spices" on page 377, but not all spices are listed, of course. Nutmeg is on the list though and it is made from nutmeg seeds. Similarly, cocoa powder is made from cocoa seeds, hence it is "legal" during Induction.

The problem is that many folks have control issues with cocoa as it is used mainly in desserts and it reminds them of chocolate... so for them it is a direct ticket to Carbland.

Adding to what Sherri posted. There is no reason why unsweetened cocoa powder could not be considered a spice IF used in spice amounts. Recipes that call for 1-2 tbsp of cocoa per serving don't really do this, as you don't use 1-2 tbsp of nutmeg per serving, for example.

But I agree that it's best if you stay away from it for now. You've just given up bars/shakes, so I believe what you are experiencing are just cravings. If today is your fourth day without frankenfoods, you'll soon be over the bump.

If you had anything that made you stall, like shakes and bars, you're pretty much starting again. I am in day 23 and my sweet chocolate cravings stopped. I do have diet coke once in a while and I've found it doesn't affect me or my ketosis, but it does other people so see how it works with you. Have a sugar free chocolate pudding if you really must but like other said, it's best to ignore the cravings. Someone gave me some great advice before which is whenever you have a craving have a full glass of ice water instead. You'll get thru it. Before you pick up anything that you know you shouldn't think about where you're trying to get to and how that will stop you.
