  • Day 14 of induction...help needed!!!

Okay guys, a little about myself. I am 185 lbs. I really only want to lose the last 10 lbs or so to reach my ultimate goal. I have been working out for a while now and have stalled on this current level. So I looked to the Atkins diet to maybe jump start my weight loss for these final few pounds. I want to see abs!!! So I am thankful that I am thin, but I want to reach my ultimate goal.

I have been on the diet for 2 weeks exactly today. I have been in ketosis for 10 days straight. I have not lost any on the skinfold calipers during this time (8mm for two months and during these 2 weeks of induction). I exercise 6 days a week. Three cardio and three weight training. But on the weight training days I jump rope between lifts so I am in the fat burning zone during those days also. All very intense Still, I have seen no movement. Here is my diet!

    Average day
    - 4 egg omelette with 2 strips of bacon, green/red peppers (1/2 cup) and 2-3 ounces of cheese, cooked in butter

    - fried chicken wings - no batter, canola oil used to fry. 6-8 per meal

    - boston butt steak, 8 ounces, 1 cup of veggies or so (oil/vinegar)

    - more chicken wings that night - 6-8
    - I drink water only. No artificial sweetners at all!

Basically I will eat a variation of this meal all the time replacing the protein with chicken thighs or hamburger(full fat).

Am I eating too many calories? Do I need to have a high calorie day every 4th or 5th day to throw off my metabolism? Is there something in the diet like too much cheese thats causing a lack of progress? Any thoughts are appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Hello CU1N81,
From what I can see, you're not getting in enough veggies.
You should be eating 2 cups of salad veggies from the salad veggie list and 1 cup of veggies off of the "other veggie" list. Or just 3 cups of salad veggies. Page 125 & 126 DANDR 2002.
The majority of your net carb intake should be coming from veggies. A minimum of 12 net carbs for Induction.
A minimum of 17 if you're in the phase of OWL and for Maintenance, you should be eating 22 Net Carbs of veggies a day.
Have you tried using fitday to log in your food for the day? It's a great tool to see where your ratios of 65% Fat, 30% Protein and 5% Net Carbs for Induction are coming from. Go to www.fitday.com to see where your ratios are.
Here's a great thread with some important information.BEFORE you begin the Atkins Nutritional Approach...
Your fat and protein look good. I would just up the veggies a bit. When adding more veggies it's giving you more fiber. This has been known to get the scale moving.
Great on the water Nothing replaces water.
    Exercise looks fantastic.
Do you take supplements? If so, what kind?
Are you on any kind of medication? Some medications slow weightloss.
Here's something I posted in my journal today. There may be something there that will help.
    Wishing you much success.
    Sincerely, Sherri

    FRIDAY: FEELING GOOD

How to Take Off Those Last 10 Pounds
You know what I like to call those last 10 or 15 pounds that won't come off no matter what you do? Vanity pounds.
The term describes our desire to lose weight that, as far as our bodies are concerned, actually feels healthy. Today's society pressures us to want to look a certain way, so for aesthetic reasons we try to be thinner than our bodies want us to be. Personally, I have gained and lost the same 8 vanity pounds more times than I care to admit.
Losing your first 50 pounds might have been tough, but believe me, dropping those final few stubborn pounds is a whole different challenge. The body struggles to hold on to that last bit of fat for survival purposes.

Now, don't get me wrong — you can lose the weight if you want to, but it will require you to muster a tremendous amount of restraint and willpower. If you're really up for it, do the following for 30 days:
    1. Cut your sodium to 1,000 mg a day.
    2. Drink at least 80 ounces of water daily.
    3. Cut out processed foods.
    4. Abstain from alcohol.
    5. Train at 85 percent of your MHR (maximum heart rate) for 1 hour 5 times a week.
You can do a lot in 30 days — in fact, I can pretty much guarantee you will lose at least 5 pounds. And you'll feel like a rock star!
