  • Frustrated with extended induction

Ok, so I lost 15 lbs in the first 2 weeks of induction. I got stuck and after another 2 weeks I THOUGHT I lost 2 more lbs but it seems to be coming and going and coming and going.

I am bouncing back and forth on those same two lbs. Never getting below 221/222 and bouncing to 223/224. It's really starting to drive me nuts.

I've tried cutting down and getting more restrictive.

I was eating sugar free ketchup (1 net carb) but took that out over a week ago
I was having 1 sugar free caffiene free soda/crystal light, splenda drink a day, but took that out 2 weeks + ago
I even cut out the optional veggies and have been on nothing but salad ones for a week.
Mayo - I am only using the one with NO SUGAR.
    Breakfast:
3 eggs (either in the shake form listed here with splenda, 1 tlbs cream, sprinkle of cinnamon and 1/2 tsp vanilla extract) OR 2 boiled eggs OR 3 scrambled with a sprinkle of cheese.
2 or 3 slices of sugar free bacon

    Lunch
Meat... beef, pork, chicken. Grilled - with herbs and spices (no sugar or fake sugars in them.. cook them myself) OR Tuna salad with dill pickle relish (no sugar) mayo (no sugar) salt, pepper, boiled egg, tiny bit of mustard.

    Dinner:
Meat (grilled cooked same as above or totally naked)
Salad - 2-3 cups of romain lettuce, 1 oz or less of feta cheese, dried basil, red wine vin (not balsamic) and olive oil

Snack - MAYBE if I get to it.. 2ish ozs (no more then 3 ozs EVER) of medium cheddar cheese and (this sounds weird but I like it ok lol) overcooked really thin cuts of steak. They are almost burned but not burned. It's kinda like jerky without all the crap they put on processed jerky.

Take L-Caratine, Chromium Pic, and non-iron multivitamin

It's been a month. I'm really frustrated. I see some that say move up the carb ladder but I'm scared to. I did atkins before and did extended induction and lost 130+ lbs before I fell off the wagon and into a chocolate cake.

I am really frustrated. I feel like I HAVE to be doing something wrong. I haven't lost a lb that doesn't magically come back in the next couple of days since the 2 weeks of begining has been over. I DEFINITELY haven't added any foods since then. It has been a month since I lost anything that stayed OFF.

Here though is the ONLY thing that has changed in my life.

I use to be a heavy smoker 2 packs a day. I was smoking the first time I did atkins and lost all the weight.
I quit last year. BUT I started back about 2 months ago (cause I'm retarded.. no seriously I figured out it was a sugar craving when I started on atkins again.. nicotine release blood sugars about 15 minutes after you've smoked) I have since in the last month started quitting again.. via the nicotine patch.

Now.. I have ummm 3.5 more weeks on the patch before I'm done quitting with it again. I don't know if the patch has ANYTHING at all to do with my stall, but I swear, I'm ready to cry. I'm so frustrated and just don't know what to do.
    Mini goals:
    1st - 209 lbs - Smaller then my husband!
2nd - 202 lbs - BMI no longer considered obese
3rd - 199 lbs - No longer have to say 2 in my weight!
5th - 168 lbs - BMI no longer considered overweight

    Re: Frustrated with extended induction

How about moving to OWL to see if that helps break things up a little?? I'd give it 2 weeks on Rung 1 and if that makes you miserable, simply move back down to extended induction. When I have to tweak or shake things up a bit, I step back into induction even it's only for a few days. Exploring more carbs from veggies might actually be what your body is begging for. I've had the best losses climbing the rungs rather than limiting myself to the few choices induction and extended induction allowed. It could help you. It helped me. Don't be afraid of the carbs!!

Are you doing exercise that helps lose faster if not try if it speeds things for you and hope your drinking lots and lots of water that will clear your system.by the way where you have written mini goals should your 4th mini goal be 168 not 268 i think it was your typing error.

I second this advice... I've seen many cases of jumpstarting loses by moving to Rung 1.

Exercise - I own a cleaning company. I work with the cleaners (well up till next week then I am stepping off and stepping up my exercise) I clean house and do commercial cleaning 3-10 hours a day, 7 days a week. I checked the caloric burn on it and it's over 200 calories per hour.. which translates to.. I should be so skinny a size 6 falls off me, but it doesn't for whatever reason. I also walk to the grocery store, I park far from the shops and never hunt for parking in close.
Water - at least 5 sometimes up to 7 16.9 fl oz bottles a day. I've gotten to the point where I drink 2 with dinner every night in the last couple of weeks. I seem to crave more water now then I did before. I try to drink as much as possible without making my self water sick.
Mini Goals- DOH!!! Thanks for noticing and letting me know!
          OWL - Rung 1
Well it can't hurt to try. I doubt I'll gain any weight by eating 25 grams of carbs a day, I guess the worst that can happen is I still don't lose anything.
At least I'm not gaining weight now, which I do rather rapidly off of atkins as I noticed when I dropped off it before.

I'm native american and there was a study several years ago that boils down to people of native american heritage are more sensitive to processed, refined carbs then the average person european heritage. We haven't had as long for our bodies to get adjusted to the processed foods as most europeans have, since we haven't had them nearly as long. (though lost of people of EVERY background still are sensitive, so please don't think I'm negating anyone else's sensitivity to carbs)

I think that a lot of the people that are very anti-atkins forget that those things aren't natural in the earth period, and that we are now in an overload of processed, refined, messed with foods. Very little is in it's pure state anymore, and our bodies spent thousands and thousands of years eating good, natural foods.

            Re: Frustrated with extended induction

many people go through what we call "PISS" - Post Induction Stall Syndrome - I did -- right after my 2 week induction I decided to stay on extended induction because I had so much to loose (and I had read where others did this) -- I ended up in a stall where I would eat everything the right way, the right amounts, everything but couldn't loose or would loose a pound gain 2 back over and over. After I went up to Rung 1 on OWL and added 5 additional net carbs of veggies I started loosing again.

As far as the nicotine patch I never used then - I tried it once but was so dizzy I couldn't stand it so I quit cold turkey the last time - that was 3 years ago this coming July 4th.

I am also Native American with a couple other nationalities added in - your body will loose at it's own pace regardless of your nationality.

The fact that you work with heavy equipment your body is use to this type of "exercise" -- you need to do something other than your work "exercise" for your body to respond to it. Try swimming or something that uses different muscles than you use on a daily basis.

I drink a minimum of 150 oz of pure water daily -- I've never come close to having "water posioning" -- it takes way more than what I drink to see any problems.

You said you did extended induction the last time and ended up with a face full of chocolate cake....you didn't learn how to add new foods and which foods you needed to stay away from by going up the Rungs....this time do the plan the way it was written and you won't end up the way you did before.

One thing - try spreading your veggies out over the day - not waiting until the last meal of the day to eat them all. Try varying your meals more - I would be bored eating the same thing over and over day after day. The thing I like best about Atkins is the variety of foods we are allowed to eat.

            Good luck
            Carole

              Re: Frustrated with extended induction

I didn't mean to give the impression that I literally ate the cake first. I just went off the diet, cold turkey in general. For a couple of reasons and various excuses that I had, I just out right quit.

The last week has been the hyper restrictive very boring menu you read.

Also what I meant by water sick was.. if I drink a lot of water, it makes me feel nauseated. I can literally feel it swirling in my stomach. This goes if I drink to much of anything.

I honestly can't imagine drinking 150 oz of water a day every day. I have to drink most of mine when I eat because I don't like the feeling of it floating on my stomach all alone.

So I am moving up to rung 1 on OWL. I'm going to probably stick with it for a couple of weeks, see how it goes. If nothing moves drop back to Induction, but for the moment. I'm having 5 grams of carbs from steamed broccoli with my lunch, with some butter. YUM!

I really missed my other veggies while eating the boring salad. I like just a little tomato and onion on my salad. Not much, less then 1/4 with both together.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm going to try this. Like I said earlier though. At least I'm not GAINING weight.

Also, I should add. I have less depression, less mood swings, sleep better, and feel more rested on Atkins. I FEEL better even if the scale isn't moving, but I REALLY want it to move!! (measurements aren't moving either *sighs*) But as I've found a couple of times already, you guys are great motivators.

                Re: Frustrated with extended induction

So... apparently I needed more veggies. I took the advice of everyone and added in another helping of veggies. I'm eating 20-25 grams of carbs now, instead of closer 15.

I've added in some pumpkin, but I'm not overly happy with how I made it so I'm going to dig through the site, cause I know I saw some sort of pumpkin dish on here at one point. If I don't eat the pumpkin I'm eating some broccoli, steamed, buttered with a bit of salt and pepper. I've also increased my salad sizes, since I had gotten pretty restrictive with them, trying to see if less was better. (it wasn't apparently)

I posted last on June 14th and within 3 days of posting I had dropped to 219, from the wobbly 221-224, and it's STAYED at 219. (almost hit 218 when I verified today) I know we aren't suppose to weigh but once a week, but my scale is one of the rotary ones, I can change weight by half a lb or more in 10 seconds according to it. So I wanted to make sure it was the real weight.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the support greatly.

                  Hi, Iza

Thanks so much for coming back and giving us a progress report. Congrats on getting the scale to move!

I didn't like pumpkin very much when I first started eating it, either. But after some tweaking, it became something I ate almost every single day during my whole OWL experience. So much fiber! (I'm a fiber freak )

Here is the link to the most recent veggie challenge: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...challenge.html Browse through it when you get a chance - lots of great discussion and recipes in there.

Way to stick it out, even though you were frustrated! That's how you successfully work this WOE... well done.

Way to go Iza - I know it is weird for some people to hear but there are people who are helped by eating more carbs and it looks like you are one of them.

I just wanted to share this thread with you. I make this nearly every day and not that I'm in OWL, I actually double the recipe and make one cup of this pumpkin recipe. I add cinnamon to the mix also. It's very good! I mix all ingredients together and then throw it in the microwave for usually 2 minutes. I pull it out, stir it up and heat for another minute. Probably overkill with the cook time but I like how it tastes! When done, I stir in 2 tablespoons of ground flax. More FIBER and it thickens the recipe up a bit. Then I sprinkle it with a little more cinnamon and done. I take it to work and snack on it all day. Word of warning, if you're going to add flax to this, be SURE to be downing your water at the same time!!

Amen, sister! If you don't drink a lot of water when eating lots of fiber (especially flax), what you end up with is a very effective "plug". Sorry if TMI, but it's definitely worth the mention. Been there, done that, and it's a nightmare.
