i had delayed periods before but i heard that in atkins u cant lose weight in periods.and during TOM there is a possibility to even gain weight...is that true..if so i am really scared coz looking my history sometimes i skip periods for a month or two..

    Re: TOM problem

Salam Sadia...I see your in bahrain im in saudi and im also a teacher. I was reading your question and yes it is normal for some to gain weight during their TOM with or without dieting. The thing is for me I found that I gained 1/2 kilo right before my TOM but it was all gone plus more after. I dont think you should worry to much if you stick to the diet you will lose weight either way.
    1st goal 248 lbs (I made it!)
    2nd goal 238 lbs (I made it!)
    3rd goal 228 lbs
    4th goal 218 lbs
    5th goal 208 lbs
    6th goal 198 lbs ONEDERLAND!!!

3 days without weight loss is absolutely normal. You can't expect to lose each and every day. Sometimes there might be whole weeks when you won't lose a pound. Take body measurements too, as they'll tell you whether you're shrinking even when the scale is stubborn.

Nope. It's not that on Atkins you can't lose weight during your period. It's just that most of us retain a few pounds of water during TOM, so if you lose some fat, you might not see this loss on the scale because you've gained water weight---what the scale might show you is either a stall or a gain. But these water pounds go away when TOM is over and often take a few friends with them.

        Dear Georgiana,

Thank you for ur reply..i am glad to hear that one can lose weight during periods.the only thing that i am worried about now is what if i cant get periods for another month or two ( it has happened before).would this delay make the weight losing a bit slower than usual...

i am going to get married in October ..u can imagine the pressure ...i love atkins but this TOM problem and the stall r creeping me out.i have a digital scale ( it shows body fat percentage, muscle mass, water percentage andbone density along with the weight)..today it shows the same weight but my body fat % has gone up 3 points (from 56.1 t0 56.4).

i walk daily fro 5 kilometrs..besides that i use rowing machine, cycling and some light weight lifting for my upper body.

going through the forums i have seen people have lost unbelieveable amounts of weight in just three months.it really depressed me ...i am not going to leave atkins and my efforts bt sometimes i do wish to lose that much..

I wouldn't think so. Do you feel like you are retaining water (bloated, swollen fingers, swollen ankles, etc.)? You definitely won't stall for a month or two, don't worry.

i am going to get married in October ..u can imagine the pressure ...i love atkins but this TOM problem and the stall r creeping me out.i have a digital scale ( it shows body fat percentage, muscle mass, water percentage andbone density along with the weight)..today it shows the same weight but my body fat % has gone up 3 points (from 56.1 t0 56.4).
Those scales are not precise, to say the least. The body fat percentage they calculate is more or less a joke. How are your clothes fitting? Did they get looser since you started Atkins? You want to fit better in your wedding dress, so inches are the one you care mostly about, I would imagine.

i walk daily fro 5 kilometrs..besides that i use rowing machine, cycling and some light weight lifting for my upper body.
That's why it's even more important to take body measurements. You may be replacing some of the fat with muscle. Since muscle has a smaller volume, you'll lose inches even when your weight may stay the same.

I see you started with 86 lbs (39 kg) to lose. You've lost 11 lbs (5 kg) during the first two weeks, which is almost 13% of the weight you had to lose! This is an excellent result and if you check the charts on page 158 of DANDR you'll find out that what this means is that you have a low degree of metabolic resistance. Therefore you can expect to have a high CCLL (the number of net carbs you can consume and still lose weight) and CCLM (the number of net carbs you can consume without gaining weight), so that's something to be happy about.
