Okay, I have to ask about this. I read people's posts about how good they feel and I wonder what I'm doing wrong. I don't have the induction flu anymore, but I don't feel an extraordinary amount of energy either. I do keep my carbs closer to 10 than 20 because I fall out of ketosis easily--too many veggies, or adding nuts, etc. Is that why I lack the energy that other talk about? I drink my water, plus some and I have been exercising, but still can't walk an entire mile yet in our mountain neighborhood. The hills kill me and I can only go .25 mile before having to head back home. Thoughts?

all the time, so I'm not the best person to ask... but I didn't feel "an extraordinary amount of energy" either. Was feeling better --- yes (partly because of the weight loss too). Was having a controlled appetite and a stable blood sugar --- yes. But "an extraordinary amount of energy" --- not really.
About you falling out of ketosis. How did you figure this out? How are you testing ketosis? BTW, nuts are not allowed until OWL Rung 3.
Are you taking a multivitamin? Maybe post a few typical menus as well.
Regarding the exercise, it takes some time to build stamina. Exercise regularly, walk a little more every time and you'll definitely get to walk a mile and more.

Re: Energized?? Not me...
Yeah, I know that I messed up on the nuts thing--but I needed to eat something that night to help me to not feel like I was missing out on the party foods. I regretted it though and won't try nuts again until I'm allowed. I use ketostix several times a day because it's motivating to me to see "proof" that the diet is working. I know that they aren't entirely foolproof and maybe they don't change color for another reason besides me being out of ketosis but I still steer clear of the foods that seem to make the color stay beige.
I do take a multivitamin and I'm glad to hear that others haven't felt a huge difference in energy. I do feel better and I haven't slept this well since I was a kid. I still get indegestion, but not like before. Anyway, thanks for the response.

Re: Energized?? Not me...
I never got the boost of energy -- I had a boost from loosing the weight I did during induction and the inches I lost.....but I'm older also and contributed that as a factor in not feeling real energetic. I do sleep better so when I wake up in the morning I feel much better when I wake up but as far as being able to conquer the world - nope I never had that feeling.
As far as feeling you wanted party food there are plenty of things you could have taken to the party to eat or if the party was at your home you could have put on the table....this is the time to make changes in your life and in the way you eat, not to feel like one of the crowd...that's what got you where you are.
Good luck staying on plan.Carole_____________________May Water 130oz daily

you are only suppose to check once a day - at the same time of day.
The sticks aren't "proof" of the diet working. I rarely have any color when I check but I am in keotsis (stinky urine and "funny" taste in my mouth) plus I am loosing pounds and inches - that is "PROOF".Carole_____________________May Water 130oz daily

Re: Energized?? Not me...
Check your fat intake, make sure it is high enough. Many folks feel that coconut oil revs their engine. It certainly did for me! (although I backed off when my weight slowed, but I think my fat was already high enough and I didn't need the extra.) But not eating enough good fats is such a common mistake in this eating plan, you need it, olive oil, butter, use them liberally.

Re: Energized?? Not me...
Thanks to everyone for the input. I did go back and check in the book, and although if you want an accurate reading you should check your ketostix at the same time of day, Dr Atkins never says not to check more than once. In fact he says that many of his clients like to have the reinforcement that the ketostix provides them early on in this WOE. I've been doing this a month and I don't think it has hurt me to keep such a close eye on when I am burning the most fat and what my diet/exercise looks like right then.
On Fitday, it has my carbs at 5%, protein at 31% and fat at 64%. I'm not sure what the right ratios should be. I don't remember reading about that and will have to check. Thanks again for the support. It feels good knowing that others haven't had the big energy boost that some people feel.

Re: Energized?? Not me...
I didn't get the "big boost" either - but after about 8 weeks, I can say I am definitely feeling better. The exercise thing takes a while - I use a stationary bike most of the time - I didn't "up" my minutes or level until week 7. When I did up the level (from 3 to 4) I really felt it!Julie__________________F/37/5'2"__________________Start April 15, 2009

Re: Energized?? Not me...
I don't feel the energy burst either, this last week I've actually been rather lethargic to be honest. Though I attribute that to just plain ole burn out from being over worked for weeks on end.

Re: Energized?? Not me...
I definitely noticed a huge change in energy. About 6 months before I started atkins I joined a gym. I was up to 4 workouts a week (40 minutes cardio and 30 mins weights per session). Atkins slowed that down a lot for me. But that much working out really just let me give myself an excuse to eat a lot more, so Atkins and moderate exercise has gotten me to a great weight loss pace. Hang in there and be patient with yourself. If helps as your body adjusts to the decrease in carb load and a natural decrease in calories from all the healthy food!
