I've noticed a lot of posts about stalls and not so many about wooshes and I thought I'd share my own recent experience.
During the week (Mon-Friday) my weight tends to stay about the same. Some days I'll lose a pound the next day I might gain a half a pound back and so on and so forth. Generally, just following the diet, I drop about 2 lbs during the week but rarely during those days do I have a "woosh".
However, on the weekend, when I get out and do all of my yard work, I start sweating like crazy. It will be to the point where my nose and ears literally have sweat dripping off of them and I can literally wring out my shirt and I generally have to change shirts two or three times. During these "outdoor activities" I'm drinking water as I need to. I'm not guzzling a gallon, but I'll drink about 8 oz every hour or so.
This is when I experience my woosh. The past two weeks, I've dropped 19 lbs.
My theory regarding the woosh is this. As we do Atkins, we're burning our stored fat, but our body is constantly holding water to preserve our "equilibrium". Eventually, our body looks for an outlet to release this water. If you're just doing the diet, with no exercise, your body will eventually release the water but it might be three weeks in between wooshes. With exercise, your body is given a need to release that water via sweat in order to cool your body.
So, in short, get out and break a good soaking sweat often. It doesn't have to be strenuous activity. Just get out and mow the lawn with a push mower. Dig some holes and plant some flowers (you'd be surprised how much work digging holes can be) and you'll see the scale really start to move on a daily basis or weekly basis.
As hot as it is in the summer, it's an excellent opportunity to release some stored up water weight and it can really keep your confidence high.
Hope this helps.
