    Hi.
Does anyone know anything in Starbucks that is post-first-14-day-of-induction friendly? If you go to *bucks, what do you get?

My friends and I meet there regularly for capitalist-fuelled coffee and I dont wanna miss out just cos of a diet. *sigh* I guess its a matter of whats more important, right? Coffee or being not fat. Bah.

Check what their sf syrup is sweetened with...around here it's got aspartame, and that's a no-no.

I've never liked starbucks cause a lot of their coffee always taste too sugary (and this was even before atkins) But I think they have things like decaff tea that would be friendly. or just get water and enjoy spending time with your friends
        F 24 5'10 SW - 217 GW 170 restarted atkins 1/14/08 - This time I'm sticking with it!

I used to get a tall decaf cafe americano with heavy whipping cream and sugar free hazelnut syrup at SB......I don't really go to Starbucks as much as I used to because I have found a better privately owned little coffee house that makes a much tastier brew!...and I know the new place uses Splenda swetened sugar free syrups......

It is a heavenly treat! So yummy!

I get the cafe Americano, I don't care for the sf vanilla, so I just get it with a little bit of heavy whipping cream and I add a packet of sweetener. Very good!

this is my fav drink ever...but there is a way to save a few bucks (only if u looooveee the taste of coffee).....instead of ordering a grande iced americano order two shots of expresso over ice and then add cream or splenda if u like...i go for just cream!!!! iced decaf with a little cream is good too...tho if u are going to get iced coffee def go for dunkin doughnuts before starbucks!!!

I do reg. decaf because to me Starbucks is so strong that I can't handle there americano's. If I want hot I get a decaf w/ heavy whipping cream and two splendas. If I want cold (and I absolutely love this one). I order a decaf over a full cup of ice and heavy whipping cream and 2 splendas. I personally don't like the SF syrups because to me they have an aftertaste that I don't care for.

Although Starbucks made me mad the other day. I went in to get one before I did my grocery shopping and asked for my regular. The girl told me that she couldn't give me heavy whipping cream because there only allowed to use it in certain things. Nevermind that I've been getting them there since January with no problem with anyone else. I told her that she could just pour out the decaf then. Thank you very much. Then I was too mad to drive across town to the other one.

I'm confused by this....See, if you choose to extend your Induction, you are choosing to still play by the Rules of Induction and eat off the Induction Acceptable Foods list. So technically, you aren't moving onto a new phase, you are merely continuing the 14 days to weeks or months. So if it's not okay for the first 14 days of Induction, it generally isn't okay for the entire Induction phase.

                      Megs,
I thought decaf coffee was okay in induction period? Also heavy cream and splenda? Am I not remembering this correctly? As long as you get your water in decaf coffee is acceptable. If I'm wrong I'll go back and reread.

I've been drinking the decaf americano's and it has not affected my weight loss. I now order it without the sugar free syrups because they contain aspartame. I now use either Splenda or the sf syrups that I bring to work.

From the FAQ's here - The rules of Atkins
                            10. Avoid coffee, tea and soft drinks that contain caffeine. Excessive caffeine has been shown to cause low blood sugar, which can make you crave sugar.
So decaffeinated is allowed - but is in addition to your minimum water intake!

I found to start with I was hard-pushed to get my 64 ounces plus 8 ounces for every 25 pounds I wanted to lose (total about 110 ounces/3.25 litres) so dropped coffee and tea completely.
Now I actually prefer a cold glass of water and only occasionally have a hot cup of decaf coffee or herbal or green tea if I feel cold and want warming up!! Funny how your tastes change!

BTW I don't think Megs was saying decaf is not allowed on induction - she was pointing out that the rules for the 14-day induction are the same as for extended induction as far as allowed drinks is concerned, so if something was not allowed in one it is still not allowed in the other.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
