  • Setting Weight Goals...mini-goals

Okay, I know exactly how much I would like the scale to read when I step on it and I also know that I am not going to be at that point for at least a year. So...I have mini-goals as so many people do. Tomorrow is my weigh-in day and I have butterflies because I'm getting closer to my first mini-goal. No, I will not be there tomorrow, but as I get closer, I feel like I'm closing in on the finish line. But really, this is just a small baby step for me.

How do you feel when you reach a mini-goal? Is it even more exciting to keep going toward the next goal, or a bit of a let-down? I want to be motivated to keep going so I hope that's how I feel when I finally reach mini-goal number one--THIS MONTH I hope. I'm interested in hearing what others' thoughts are on setting these smaller goals.

    Re: Setting Weight Goals...mini-goals

Hi -- when I hit my first mini goal I was esctatic - I couldn't get the grin off my face for the entire day. I allowed myself a "treat" -- we had NY strip steaks for dinner that night - that way I was legal but it was something we don't eat often.

I never lost sight of the big picture (how much I have left to loose) but the small goals are a wonderful way to stay focused.

Congrats on getting closer to your first goal -- can't wait to hear you've made it!!

      Re: Setting Weight Goals...mini-goals

I've always taken a chapter from the twelve step programs like Overeaters Anonymous and Alcholics Anonymous ... it is one day at a time! I celebrated my victories along the way with special incentives (new makeup, new clothing, weekend with my gal pals in New York City, blah, blah, blah. In my case, I'd dieted and failed so many times, I just didn't want to set myself up and I realized that my goals were long term. But slowly with weight loss, my confidence built and I dared think the impossible ... that I could actually lose weight with Atkins.

Celebrate with a pat on the back, let us know you have met a mini goal and we will all post and keep you going until the next one. That is how this board has worked for me.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.
