  • Starting Extended Induction Today

I am on Day 15 of induction and have lost 13 pounds (and a few scattered inches) so far.

Since I have so very much to lose, I'm sticking with induction for a while.

My goal for this next week is to add some exercise!

Way to go! You definitely want to add in the exercise. I'm just starting extended induction and I'm adding in the exercise today. Best wishes!

Just a heads up to both of you -- you can stay on extended induction as long as you feel you need to but make sure you give your body enough time to adapt back to new foods are you add them....you can stay on each rung as long as you need to give your body time to adapt to that new type of food....you really need to spend more than a week on each rung.

I stayed on extended induction and stopped loosing weight -- when I went on to Rung 1 and started adding 5 new carbs of veggies the weight started coming off again.

Make sure you don't make induction your "diet" -- this is a way of life NOT a diet!

        Hi Eama,
I started exercising the middle of June which was at about 3 weeks into Atkins too. I started out by walking in our neighborhood. It was harder than I anticipated. It about killed me to go a quarter mile before turning around to go back home. But I just wanted to tell you that it gets better! I've been exercising for almost a month now and I can walk a mile and a quarter before quitting! I am also starting to ride a stationary bike--did 2 miles this morning and it felt great! I can't believe how fast my body has adapted to movement. Just wanted to let you know the first days might be really hard, but it gets a lot better really quick. Good luck!

          Re: Starting Extended Induction Today

Oh Carole, I've read all your warnings to other people about staying so long on Induction. Right now, my plan is to move on to Rung 1 once I hit 300 lbs (which is still a long way away for me). If my weight loss stalls out, I'll head to Rung 1 of OWL and then work SLOWLY through the other rungs.

And thanks for the encouragement guys! I know walking is difficult for me now. Funny... I can walk through a store or even the parking lot at a decent pace without TOO much trouble. But when I go to walk around the block, I get leg cramps and my back kills me. Weird. That's my plan though.

Back a couple of years ago when I was around 350 I was taking 3 mile hikes through the woods with my kids every day. If ONLY I had been doing Atkins at the same time, I'd be thin now! Ha ha!

I have been on induction now for 7 days. I feel better and my blood sugar keeps going down gradually each day. I have been to the Y once this week but plan on going again tomorrow. I have been experimenting with some recipes and I seem to be doing okay. I really need to get the Atkins book tho so I can read up and be more informed. Good luck on the excercise program.

              Re: Starting Extended Induction Today

You are just in time to sign up for the next 6 week exercise challenge folks

And for those members who are just starting to exercise and wonder if they could cope with the challenge here is a short explanation of what would 'count' for the challenge.

'exercise' for this challenge is any form of moving your body that is extra to what you would be doing if you were not exercising.

So for someone who normally moves very little in their normal life, maybe a stay-at-home or retired person, who only used to get out of the house a few times a week for shopping etc, 'exercise' for the challenge would mean them making a special effort to walk around the block near their home several times a week in addition to their usual trips to the shops.

For someone who is always on the go at work, maybe a nurse who is on her feet most of the day or a warehouseman moving boxes all day, it would mean adding some extra activity, like an exercise class or walk in the evening or pedalling an exercise bike instead of sitting on the couch watching TV before going to bed.

Hopefully as we all get fitter the exercise intensity can increase and become a new 'normal' for us
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
