  • Ongoing Induction Food Question

Okay so here's my main question:

In the extended induction, can I eat any of the "corporate" Atkins stuff like bars, shakes, etc.?

I'm a busy mom of 2 and I work full time so I'm always on the go somewhere and sometimes I don't have time to make my own food.

I always eat dinner out as well so I'm okay with that, it's the B and L that I don't have a whole lot of time to make stuff so I was thinking the Atkins bars and shakes might be a good thing.

What do you think? Do you eat this on the extended induction or no?

sorry to be the bearer of bad news... but no.
the shakes and bars have a loooot of no-no stuff in them, check the ingredients. and they dont count the sugar alcohols (which they should).

I'd try to stay veeery far away from all that stuff. it has stalled a lot of people. when i started out it actually got me GAINING weight!

i try to cook a lot of stuff at once, and freeze. make bags of salami, string cheese, ham slices, etc for snacks on the go.

good luck and keep it up!

I wouldn't. If you have read DANDR, Dr. Atkins recommends only a very occasional bar or shake, not as a regular part of Atkins. This program is about replacing old habits with new behaviors. There are a lot of busy people who deal with Atkins. It takes planning, but whether Mom's or business people or members who travel all the time or members trying to keep all the balls in the air, I'm sure some others will share some planning tips.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

you might try doing a search on "snacks"... they have some really great ideas. I'm a student, and I commute, so i know how complicated it gets...

The advantage bars knocked me out of ketosis, I think I'm sensative to sugar alcohol. I cook a lot on the weekends, I make quiches, beanless chili, stuff like that. There is a really good website you can go to for recipies

              It's Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes

She has a lot of foods you can cook and freeze, it's a pain, but definately worth it!

if you want to do a bars and shakes type Atkins ask yourself what am I learning about changing my eating habits that is going to allow me to be the healthier smaller person I want to be at goal.

the answer is nothing and that is why Slimfast is such a succeessful repeat customer company.

As Dr Atkins says the people who work their way through all 4 phases of his program are the ones who keep the weight of and don't regain it.

You can preplan your meals and foods so lunch and breakfast are not so hectic getting ready many of us make large batches of foods ad freeze or refrig the leftovers in single serving size for quick easy meal prep.

                You can do this.

                Happy low carbing.

                  Love protein bars

I guess I am in the minority on this one. I eat the low carb bars (2 or 3 NET carbs) almost daily. It has never knocked me out of ketosis or stalled my weight loss. I know certain people are more senstive to these types of products and they can cause cravings. For me, they satisfy my cravings. But, everyone is different. If choose to try these types of products do so slowly and with much caution!

If you are doing the "extended Induction" then the Induction rules and the Induction food list still applies. So if the food you want to add contains fruits, legumes, grains, grain flours, etc. etc. then it doesn't matter how many carbs it has, it's not acceptable for Induction. If you want to add 'non-Induction' food groups, then move onto OWL.
