Im even contimplating moving over to a Low fat diet, but keeping the principles of Atkins ie... low carb, but low fat too (ive read the book so I know this doesnt work! so why cant I get it out of my head?)....oohhh im soooo confused!

    Re: Fruit cravings!!

Why wait till then when you can carry on losing at the same rate with luck by moving up the OWL ladder and have more food choices as well?

You could get to rung 4 after 4 more weeks where you can enjoy berries (and most melons) and stay there till you feel you should try the higher rungs.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Im scared of introducing more carbs, I know its 5 at a time and see how I go, but im thinking if my exercise/cardio has increased and im still only loosing 1-2 lbs a week, then if i introduce the next rung... then my weight loss will slow more...?? Ive always had it in my head that I would stay here until ive done the most part of fat burning and them move up the rungs once within 14lbs or so of target??

      Im re-reading OWL chapter again!

I think that 14 lbs is too late to start moving up the OWL ladder (Rung2+)...at 1-2 lbs /week, that is adding back 1-14 foods...I have added/want to add yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta, almonds, cashews, peanuts/pb, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, pecans, strawberries, blueberries, honeydew, cantaloupe...that's 13, and only Rung 3...adding back one food per week...well you get the picture.

I'm in this for life, and I want to know what foods I can and can't tolerate in order to minimize cravings and keep the weight monster away forever. The closer you get to goal, the harder it will be to tell if a new food you've added is stopping your weight loss.

Would you continue up the ladder after reaching goal & remove foods that make you gain? I haven't really thought about how people do OWL when they have less to lose. I've got 100+lbs left, so I feel like I can stroll thru OWL at my leisure and have a really solid footing when I get to pre-maintenance/maintenance. Just my thoughts...best wishes for whatever decision you make for yourself.

            Re: Fruit cravings!!

I think you should move on before your cravings make you cave in. I stubbornly stayed on induction too long and hit a brick wall. When I got mad and started up the ladder, I lost 4 pounds the first week. The weight started coming off better than ever. Lots of us lost better on the first few rungs. I still have to make the higher rungs a once in a while thing, I do well with rungs 1 - 4. (as long as I stay away from the evil peanut butter)

hmmmm I never even thought that i would lose 'better' on the OWL....thats something for me to consider....

MzDizzy~ You could try eating Jicama..I read in not2late's blog that you can chop it, add chopped celery and mayo and eat it like a mock waldorf salad. Plus it kinda tastes like a pear or apple only not as sweet...also there are the sweeter vegies to take the edge off...like red/yellow/orange bell pepper strips for instance. and Rhubarb is on the induction list too. There are a bunch of great recipes to help in here.

Good luck to you...I might just consider working my way up the owl thing soon

                  Noooo!

You need to start by adding more veggies (5 net carbs), not diary. What book are you reading? We use the 2002 edition around here. Check these three threads for a more detailed explanation:

I have a while to go before the fruit rung so I tried using fruit-flavored extract in place of the vanilla extract in the Mock Danish recipe. So far I've tried strawberry, pineapple, lemon, orange and banana extracts. Nothing like real fruit but the mock danish has a fruity taste to it which will do.

I am a fruit lover and tricks like this have helped me a lot. My body won't tolerate too many carbs and the natural sugars of fruit too often, so when I am really craving fruit, I flavor water with a bit of fruit flavored Kool-Aid. Works like a charm. I also use raspberry extract in my mock Danish and it is great.

That sounds really good! I think I'll have pickup some raspberry extract next time I'm out!! I just assumed it would be illegal until OWL 4...

The different flavored extracts are pretty much the same as vanilla extract (give or take .1g carbs) and vanilla extract was in the Induction-friendly mock danish recipe so I figure it's fine.

I found a lot of different ones at my local dollar store! Who knew? I haven't tried the raspberry version yet but plan to. I also have chocolate and hazelnut extracts which are on the list for upcoming mock danish.
