Well, my DH, dog and I had quite an adventure last night! We decided it was so beautiful
that we would go for a walk with our dog Dave on the (American Chestnut Land Trust) ACLT landtrust. It is a part of Southern Maryland that is now a nature preserve. It used to be farmland and it's a really neat place to walk, lots of different trails, there are some that lead to old homesteads from the 1800's there is a cemetary there with graves from the 1700-1800's

    They have a
trail where you walk down into a swamp, on to a boardwalk across some
bridges, then you have to climb stairs cut into the side of a hill to get
out of the swamp and back up on to level land. We have walked it many
times, we knew it got muddy, but we both had on water proof hiking boots so
we thought it would be ok. The last time we walked that particular trail
was a winter before the hurricane hit Maryland, everthing was frozen and sooo beautiful.
Well, we hiked about two miles to get down to the swamp area, and there were
places where we were sinking in mud. Dave sunk all the way up his legs to
his belly at one point, but we were laughing and having fun. Then we start
to notice that everything looks different....beavers had taken the trees
that came down during the hurricane and built a dam! We could see little
pieces of the boardwalk and a bridge sticking up out of this huge lake that
wasn't there before! So we had to turn around and hike back to the road,
then walk back to our car. We started out at around 5:00, we got back to
our car at 7:00! I guess we definately got our workout yesterday. Today I am sore all over, but it was still fun. Just thought I'd share!
