  • dont understand how adding carb can help

Ive been on induction for 4 weeks and have lost just under 3 pounds
because im loosing so slowly im scared to move onto OWL

ive seen alot of advice about how adding more veg. gets weight loss going quicker and could break a stall....i dont get how this would work
isnt low carb about cutting carbs for more weight loss?

what is it about the veg that does this? how does this advice make sense?

Have your read Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution(2002 version)? If not I would recommend that you do so that you will understand the concept of this way of eating.

I would also suggest reading the FAQ's.
Atkins Low Carb Dieting - FAQ's - Atkins Diet

You'll also find a list of veggies in the FAQ section. Should be eating 3 cups per day. You could also post a menu on this forum Review My Menu - Atkins Diet & get some advice/suggestions.

    Good luck on your journey!

Re: dont understand how adding carb can help

Being deficient in certain vitamins and minerals can impair our body's ability to convert food into energy (rather than fat) and to produce the hormones needed to mobilize body fat. While some vitamins and minerals are found in oils, meat, eggs, etc., many of them are found in larger amounts in vegetables. However, during Induction we are only allowed 3 cups of vegetables, so we have to choose wisely what veggies we use from the acceptable foods list to get the best possible nutrition. But even if we make wise choices, not all of us are very good at absorbing vitamins and minerals. This is why, for some of us, moving to OWL and adding more nutritious veggies can help in losing weight more than doing a long Induction.

You should also take a multivitamin and check with your doctor if you need additional supplements.

Carbs aren't evil...too much sugar is. We have to give our bodies what they want/need in order for them to let go of the excess weight. Our bodies will hoard if they think they aren't going to be fed properly...Which is why this is a low-carb WOE, not a no-carb WOE. Meat and Eggs & cheese don't have the same nutrients as veggies...our bodies need the nutrients from veggies. IMO, that is why Dr. Atkins wrote the diet the way he did

Great! Re-read the OWL Chapter in DANDR and take a look at the sticky threads in the OWL Forum, to make sure you're doing everything correctly and keep losing.

            Happy OWLing!
