  • Clarification...

    OK, so I pee on my ketostix and I get either trace or small - ALWAYS. Never more than that. From what I understand that means I'm still in ketosis and the furnace is burning, right? I don't have to get all crazy purple to mean that it's working, correct? Basically I'm just trying to confirm that when I test once a week on my weigh in day that so long as SOMETHING happens, we're groovy.

    Just as an aside, since I started this WOE, I've got my mom and dad on board and two girls at work! LOL!

    Yes, that's right. If the color changes only slightly, the ketostix tell you you are still in ketosis. Even if they didn't change color, you could still be in ketosis; it would simply mean you are using all the acetoacetate ketones (the only ones detected by the stix) for other stuff going on in your body and have no excess left to pee.

    What about the physical signs of ketosis, do you notice any? Like reduced appetite, thirst, more energy, weird smelling breath/urine/sweat? These are more reliable than the stix.

      Well, I constantly have a funky taste in my mouth...not bad, just like a weird different taste. I don't eat NEAR what I used to. Even when I think I'm starving at lunch or something, I eat a chicken breast on 2 cups of salad where before I'd polish off 2 breasts and a huge plate of salad with lots of dressing and a big piece of bread. So that's definitely diminished. I always have dry mouth so I'm drinking pretty much non-stop and drink about 3 of my 64 oz jugs of water every day, so that's, what, 192 oz of water... And lastly, I DEFINITELY have more energy. I'm not dog tired at the end of the day and I used to require a nap when I got home just to get through the evening of getting my daughter ready for bed and putting her to bed at night. No more. So if that's really the best way to base it, then I'd definitely say I'm in ketosis even if the scale/measurements have temporarily halted and if I only have trace amounts of ketones on the stick. Just gotta keep at it. Even if I never lost another lb, I feel so much better, why would I ever go back??

        I have never shown any color on the sticks and stopped using them long ago. I can tell by the color and smell of urine. The taste in my mouth I wouldn't say is bad, it's sort of sweet but in a different way. As long as you know you are in keotsis it doesn't matter what color the stick says - or if it has a color even.

        I've never been one of the people who feels a great burst of energy, there are days I accomplish quite a bit and days when I don't but I don't let that get to me either.

          Well, Carole, you've done awesome, so I'm not gonna stress it then. I'll just keep at it and weight for the scale/tape to start moving again...I seem to be stopped for the moment...just gotta wait it out....
