  • Can I Extend Induction?

I just started induction but I was wondering if I can extend it past two weeks, since I feel fine and it seems to be working for me. Also, I feel like I'm eating a whole lot to be satisfied, (Yesterday- 3 eggs with some slices of pepperoni for breakfast, one red pepper with a can of salmon for lunch, a cup of hard cheese for snacks, two string cheeses, two large hamburger patties, half a cup of milk with coffee) is this too much for a 250 lb person? Also, have had some lower stomach pains (not major) since last night off and off- is this my body getting used to my new diet which is mostly protein and fat instead of carbs?
    Thanks!

    Re: Can I Extend Induction?

You can definitely extend it longer than 2 weeks, but be careful of the nitrates in Pepperoni and the sugar content in milk! You may want to substitue canadian bacon instead of the pepperoni and reserve cream rather than milk for your coffee. At least during induction. Good luck fellow inductionee!!!

You're eating a lot of dairy - are you constipated?
So the rules for dairy is NO MILK (but you are allowed a few tablespoons of whole cream)
only 3-4 oz of cheese daily - most people should probably eat less.

But you can extend induction if you like. But you must decide to get on with the programme too. Many people lose weight on induction - go back to old eating and put it all (and more) back. Continuing the programme you will learn how to eat in the long run

        Re: Can I Extend Induction?

Apart from possibly eating too much cheese for induction I don't see any veggies there. Did you just miss listing them? Remember we can have up to 3 cups of them each day, and that most of our carbs on induction should be from our veggies rather than from the cheese/eggs/cream we are also allowed.

As for the lower stomach pains - the only time I had those was when I was constipated.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I am in my third week and plan to extend induction for a while. I am feeling good, losing weight and walking 2 miles per day. I hope to lose 12 more pounds by Halloween!

            Re: Can I Extend Induction?

Yes. I did do an extended induction and it has worked out well for me.

I don't think that is too much to eat. Most of the people I talked to said they ate more at the beginning too.

I notice that after several weeks though you get hungry less. I think at 1st our body tells us we are hungry because it wants a carby treat. If you continue to eat low carb your body seems to accept that its not going to get a bunch of carbs and stops with the cravings. Then you only feel like eating when you are actually hungry. Its pretty cool actually.

This is my 2nd time doing this and I wish I never stopped in the 1st place.

Keep it up. Pretty soon I bet you will be forgetting to eat! lol

As for the stomach aches, maybe it might be constipation so may be more veggies could help. Or fiber.

              Re: Can I Extend Induction?

I have been on the Atkins 3 times in the past. My frustration was the only weight loss was the first time of induction-lost 12lbs! Then nothing for 2 weeks, so I said forget it! Later, 2nd time around, nothing much, so I gave up, til I read in the Atkins Book that you can go on with Induction Phase for 6 months, Safely! I did that! When 6 months was up, I had no desire to come off, but at about 7th month I did. Took me about an hour to eat a baked potato! it was the best my health has been in for quit sometime. Dr. said by BMI was 24 and keep doing what I was doing! My cholest-perfect! Proud to say I went from a 12/14 down to a size 2! Go Dr. Atkins! God rest his soul. He surely helped me. Now the inches began to really decrease rapidly around month 3-4. Give me a reply and we'll chat in more in depth...
