Re: Can ground beef make you hungry?

I'm basically eating ground beef all the time! I just cook it and eat it alone with just a bit of salt or garlic!

I have been noticing I am hungry on some days more than others, as well. I don't know if it has to do with the KIND of ground beef I am getting because I get 80% lean.

so I don't know if lean means less fat?

I also have not used butter at all on my eggs... Maybe I better start using butter to see if more fat would help.

It's just when I put in the beef on fitday, I trust fitday has the right amount of fats and protiens programmed into their system and I am usually 60% fat and 38% protien

According to my fitday pc which has entries for all the different percentages of lean ground beef the numbers on 8 ounces of 80% lean/20% fat beef look like this

I couldn't see if the online fitday has the same options but you could make a custom entry for it using these numbers to make your food log more accurate
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

You are eating veggies right? Ground beef is not going to provide you with all the nutrients you need. The ground beef look fatty enough - but usually when I make ground beef I end up throwing out a lot of the fat because it separates out and then I don't eat it.

I am more hungry some days than others - I think that is just natural. We just do not have the same constant energy need everyday. We are not machines

          Yes, it does.
I looked at the entry for 95% lean ground beef and the ratios were switched around completely from the one I posted a screenshot of, making it have 33% fat and 67% protein.
So the 80% one you are using is a better Atkins choice than the very lean variety with 95% lean

Also in UK the more fat in it, the cheaper the ground meat, which is a help with the budget

Re: Can ground beef make you hungry?

20% fat refers to the amount of fat, in grams, in the total quantity of meat. So for 100 grams of raw ground beef with 20% fat, you would have 20 grams of fat.

"Lean" refers to everything that is left (protein, water and ash), so it does not mean only protein. So, in this example, that would be 80 grams of protein+water+ash. 80 out of 100 is 80%.

Also, you mentioned you eat pesto - pesto sauce contains pine nuts, which you should hold off on until OWL Rung 3. That could be triggering cravings or hunger.

Re: Can ground beef make you hungry?

Ground beef can be a great Atkins choice especially for getting your veggies in. It takes "mixers" quite well. Yesterday I had ground beef with green beans. I've done it with spinach. Pretty much any veggie mixes in well. You can also slip things like sour cream or cream cheese in to up your fat intake. The ground beef with green beans also had 1oz of cream cheese and a splash of heavy cream. It made a fabulous sauce.

I think you will quickly tire of just ground beef and may find yourself hungry if you are eating it alone. Lettuce doesn't provide enough nutrition so tossing in a different veggie may help the hunger. For induction of course remember to stick to the induction veggies - a great way to try new veggies on the list!

Since I live alone, when I cook I have food for 1-2 weeks. This week I’m eating ground beef (generous portions) and I’m hungry all the time. I thought drinking more water would help ~ I’m now up to 4 liters a day and it makes no difference. Can it be the beef?
No... It's all in your head. It tastes good. But the beef itself does not increase hunger. However, like some other foods, once you eat some, you may desire more of it. (Consider bacon... yes, even better if on top of the beef! LOL)

Re: Can ground beef make you hungry?

Don't feel bad, steak does the same thing to me. About a half an hour after eating, I feel like my stomach is hungry again but I wait and see and it goes away. I wonder if its a blood sugar thing??? My body used to do that when I ate spaghetti...However my theory is that its hard to get fattier cuts of steak these days (what is with everyone's obsession with lean meat cuts now??? ugh) so sometimes I put a pat of butter on top of the steak and it doesn't give me that hunger afterwards...weird! Definitely get more fat in my opinion. Especially if you're draining the fat off. I am really waiting for the day when I can find me a good NON lean piece of steak at my supermarket...*sigh* If I could eat prime rib every day I would be one happy woman!!! Lol.

BTW, doesn't the body process protein much the way it does carbs (converting it to glucose)??? Could that be the culprit? Or would that only happen if protein was in excess or there was a lack of enough fats?

all eatten protein that is digested and is in excess of the amount needed for growth and repair will cause the body to attempt to store it. this means those proteins that were busted into amino acids in the digesting process are now crammed into muscles and organs until their capacity is reached.
At that point the remaining amino acids are fractured into a carbon group and a nitrogen group. the nitrogen group is the stuff we pee out. the hydrocarbon group can be for the majority of amino acids made into glucose.

this is not a bad thing as we low carbers need glucose to feed our red blood cells, parts of the retina and certain deep brain tissues along with those greedy body parts that could use fatty acids but still suck glucose from the blood stream when body energy supplies get low inside them.

We need a certain amount of glucose circulating in the blood stream so the too low blood glucose emergency systems don't kick in. That glucose is supplied in low carbers by glucogenesis where those amino acids along with dietary hydrocarbon backbones to fats, and spent molecules from glucose anaerobic energy production are converted to glucose.

Since it takes more energy to convert those amino acids to glucose then can be retrived back from the busting them for fuel to make body energy we low carbers do not fear glucogenesis since negative energy production sytem mean more body stored energy has to be used to replace that used up energy.
What we don't want it to make so much glucose at one time that high insulin amounts are released to deal with that high glucose levels cause insulin is a body fat storing chemical and yep you guessed it high blood sugar means we will not be shedding body fat cause our fat cells will be being stuffed with those excess glucose moleceles and dietary fatty acids to make more body fat.

SO eat your proteins with the healthy fats and the required veggie carbs to feed your hunger and shed your excess body fat
