  • Just can't lose....what's up??

I am in my 4th week of induction. I've posted menu's, it seems like
I'm doing everything "right", but have only gone from 165.5 to 160.5, but am back to 162. What gives? I use those ketosis sticks, and it wasn't until the 2nd week they finally turned purple, and have been ever since, yet the LBS don't seem to budge.
Some days I'm not eating a TON, since my hunger has all but vanished.
Every few days I have an EAS Low Carb (2net) breakfast shake since I am running out the door. Can that shake a day here and there keep me at the same weight, even though I have completely changed my life and have limited my carbs to never more than 20???
Typical menu is your basic eggs and bacon or sausage for breakfast, eggs cooked in butter, often topped w/ a slice of cheese.
Lunch is typically a small green salad, w/ cucumber, tomato, green pepper, and ranch. I tend to have a small steak w/ that or chicken breast. Dinner is any kind of protein, be it a steak, pot roast, grilled chicken, w/ a small veggie on the side. Cauliflower, broc, green beans, one of those. A snack would be a few slices of roasted turkey, or some slices of ham. Also I've had a snack of homemade veggie dip w/ some colored peppers dipped in. I am only drinking water......taking a multi vitamin........not sure what to do...........

    TIA!!

    >>it wasn't until the 2nd week they finally turned purple>>

Doesn't matter if they turn purple or not. Purple could mean you're just spilling a lot of ketones at that time, or it could mean you're dehydrated.

For the purposes of Atkins, any change of color indicates ketosis ... but even if you don't turn them, you can be in ketosis.

What are the ingredients in the EAS shake? If you must have a shake, why not an Atkins shake? Why not get up a bit earlier so you can have a real breakfast?

Have you considered moving to OWL? This could be your body's way of telling you to "move on".

And ... your body will lose at its own rate ... so maybe this is just natural.

        They have 3net carbs.
Would this cause the slow loss, though?
I had been staying in induction until I saw a steady loss.
It seems there is such little loss, I wanted to try to hang longer in induction. I guess I'm just not understanding why the loss has not been greater. Thanks for your info........

How much are you eating? Calories?
Do you use fitday? What are your fat and protein rations
          Drinking water? Exercising?
Did you cut out the crystal light?

I think you may be seeing the normal little pause that comes after induction. The shake is not induction legal so I would try to do without it and see if that helps

Instant coffee and caffeine are known stallers for some people and the shakes contain both. And yes having one only once a week could be enough to negate the whole rest of the week. You have to treat Atkins as a way of eating for life-seven days a week. Give up the shakes for two weeks and see if that helps. Good luck to you.

That's not the promise of Atkins!

I didn't understand why I didn't lose all my weight according to the Fitday trend line. Good thing I kept at it ... because my body finally lost it all ... and I've learned how to keep the weight off.

Having expectations is bound to be defeating.

If you like shakes for an occasional meal you could make your own to avoid all those chemical ingredients. There is a recipe in this forum for an 'egg-nog' type that others have liked.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

It is normal to have days when you eat a lot and days when you eat little. However, what you are saying might indicate that you are a cephalic responder (since the shakes are sweetened).

There is a sticky thread in the FAQs about the cephalic phase insulin response: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-response.html

                    thanks georgiana-that article was interesting.
i have stopped the crystal light, i will go 2 weeks w/o the shakes and see if i see an improvement. i have used fit day and am in the correct ratios of fat/carbs/cal etc.
i realize you have to eat 7days a week as a way of life, and i have been doing that.
i don't feel i have too high of expectations, not setting myself up for dissapointment.
atkins says: If you’ve completed Induction, feel great about your progress and are ready to start adding variety to your menu – move on to OWL.
so, i will not be moving onto OWL yet.
thanks for all of the input, i hope to report back with some good news!!

                          Re: Just can't lose....what's up??

Okay, so you have 22-27 lbs to lose. Then losing 3.5 lbs, as I understand you've lost, is 13-16% of the weight you had to lose when you started. That's a good number!

Since you don't have a lot of weight to lose, it might be better for you to move to OWL. Remember that the last 5-10 lbs should be spent in Pre-Maintenance, and OWL takes quite a lot of time --- you need to go through the rungs, find your food intolerances and CCLL. These are important things to know in order to maintain your weight once you reach goal, and moving slowly is often the wiser approach.
