  • Too many almonds?

Is it ok if I eat too many almonds? I just have addiction to them
    I eat as following:

Breakfast--- 2 eggs and cheese, about 260 calories
Lunch-- some meat and veggies, about 400 calories, and carbs about 2 g from the veggie
Dinner---almonds! 1 cup, about 640 calories and carbs about 8 g from the almonds

so altogether I consumed about 1300 calories and only 10 g of carbs...
does that make sense? So theoretically I could lose weight by this eating plan...what do you think? Thank you for any advice!!!

Almonds are not allowed on induction. Check out the list of foods allowed on induction and eat nothing that isn't on it. Almonds are an OWL Rung 3 food - and are limited to one ounce/day!

Then you shouldn't eat them at all... if you can't control the portion size.

carbs about 2 g from the veggie

Most of your net carbs should be coming from vegetables.

Are you looking for a quick fix or for a new way of eating for life?

And do you have a copy of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002)?

When I first added nuts back into my diet, I had portion control issues with some of them. But as time went by, the problem slowly disappeared and now I can eat most nuts without overeating them.

You also must plan. Don't measure a whole cup of nuts. Measure one ounce and put the rest away.

And I think I am looking for a quick fix
The problem with quick fixes is that they are temporary. You lose weight now... fine... and then you go back to your sugary cakes and gain it back... then you'll need to lose it again... and so on. It is yo-yo dieting... which screws up your metabolism and is not good for your overall health.

On the other hand, if you follow Atkins correctly, you will be losing weight and maintaining your weight loss.

I hope you realize that Induction is not the only phase of Atkins. During OWL, you will be eating more veggies, fresh cheese, yogurt, nuts, berries and other fruits, legumes, starchy vegetables, grains... and alcohol, if you wish.

I still want to eat cakes and stuff in the future...
Just because you want to eat something... it doesn't mean you need to have it.

And there are low carb desserts to choose from... so it's not like you'll never eat cake for the rest of your life.

I dont have the book, where can I find it?
At a bookstore... I got mine from Barnes and Noble. You can also order it on Amazon or eBay.

You need to read the book to be successful on Atkins.

When did you start Atkins and how much weight do you have to lose?

              Re: Too many almonds?

Thank you for your patient and detailed answers, Gerogiana! I realize the problem with quick fix as well, and I feel I am always yo-yo dieting. sigh!!!

I will look for the book in the bookstore. I started my Atkins 2 weeks ago and as you notice, I didnt quite follow the introduction rule. I think I need to and will start over again! And this time I will stay away from the nuts. I have 20 lbs to lose, now I weigh 140. Do you think I should set a timeline for myself? How long do you think I could lose all these lbs?

Another question, should I watch for calories when I am doing Atkins? I checked normally for my weight I should eat around 1300 calories per day, but can I go over this number if I strictly follow the Atkins in introduction? Thanks a lot for you answer!!!!

With only 20 lbs to lose, you might want to consider starting from OWL. That will give you more time to climb the Carbohydrate Ladder and progress to Pre-Maintenance when you have 5-10 lbs left to lose.

Do you think I should set a timeline for myself?
Scheduling your weight loss is often only setting you up for disappointment. It will happen at the rate your body wants it to happen.

How long do you think I could lose all these lbs?
Nah! See? You're doing it again! It doesn't matter how long it will take. I can say 3 weeks or 2 years... none of which would actually help you. It's not a race. It's about changing your way of eating forever, learning new habits, and learning how to maintain your weight.

Another question, should I watch for calories when I am doing Atkins?
You don't need to... but it can't hurt. Some people have the tendency to undereat... which will slow down their metabolism. Others go on binges... thinking that if something is low in carbs they can eat 10 servings of it.

I checked normally for my weight I should eat around 1300 calories per day, but can I go over this number if I strictly follow the Atkins in introduction?
I think that number is your BMR, right? Depending on your activity level, you can certainly eat more. On Atkins, if you are hungry, you should eat.

Another thing to remember -- you should drink a minimum of 64 ounces of PURE water daily -- nothing added....I agree with Georgiana, you need to read the book.

If you check www.amazon.com OR www.half.com you can get a cheap copy - mine was under $5.00 including shipping and even though it said "used" the book was brand new.

                    Re: Too many almonds?

It's pretty easy to find copies of DANDR at thrift shops! My original copy was from 1999 so I needed to get the newer version. I found the 2002 copy at the first thrift shop I looked in. I paid 50 cents for it! You can't beat that!
