    Hello,

Today is my 24th day in induction and I still haven't lost any pound. I checked ketosis and it's burgundy but still no pounds lost? A lot of people say it might be because i'm losing inches but I don't think I am, the only difference I'm seeing is my stomach is less flabby but not really smaller in inches, I don't think. I say this because my pants are fitting better but not necessarily loose. Besides, I understand that people lose inches but not the weight but I also know that they will eventually lose the pounds right? I mean can you really go down 1 or 2 sizes without losing any pound?

I have hypothyroidism and I'm currently taking Levothroid. Please help! I wanna give up because I feel like I'm wasting my time.

I'm getting married in 3 months and I'm sooo frustrated. All I wanna lose is 20 pounds and I can't even seem to do it even when I'm working my butt off trying!

Can you tell us what you eat and drink typically. Like today. We may be able to help you tweak. How much do you weigh now? How tall are you? Are you exercising?

Welcome to ADBB. We will try to help.
I am hypo too and have lost fine.

      Re: Frustrated

How long have you been on the thyroid med? I started it 2 weeks ago and haven't lost anything since starting, but the literature said the expect my body to take up to 6 weeks to adjust. I don't really want to spend 6 weeks at this weight, but I've decided to keep eating induction foods and to keep exercising so that by the time my body adjusts, the weight will start to fall off again.

Good color on the ketostix should be reassuring. Your body will eventually cooperate! Also, about losing inches--you have to measure! I wouldn't have believed that I lost so many inches if the tape measure hadn't proved it to me. I love concrete evidence so I measure, and weigh, and use ketostix faithfully. Some people can 'tell' the WOE works because of the way they feel, but I need my 'proof'. Stay committed, you'll see results soon!

        Re: Frustrated

        Hi Liz,

Typically, I'll eat eggs in the morning, hard-boiled or fried. Sometimes I eat it with bacon strips, sometimes with sausage.

For lunch, I eat the KFC Grilled Chicken with their side salad (I only put lettuce) and ranch dressing

        OR

El Pollo Loco chicken with their side salad (lettuce and cheese only)

        OR

Protein burger (only the lettuce, cheese, and patty, sometimes with mayo)

For dinner, I'll eat any meat at home (I make sure that they're not sweet though, like something grilled with salt and pepper and stuff)

The only thing I can think of is I'm on and off in drinking enough water, some days I'll do really good but sometimes I don't.

I also found that i drank so much soda in the first 2 weeks (maybe because I was craving sweet) but I stopped doing that going into 3rd week cause I realized that it might be the culprit. Every now and then I'll snack on pork rinds.

Very rarely, I'll snack on a piece of string cheese.

I've been very good for the last 24 days except for last Saturday (my bday) I had shots of something that contained sugar but i was still very good with the food part. But then, what about the first 20 days before my birthday, how I didn't lose weight?

Currently, I weight 214, 5'3" and I used to exercise a lot (4 times a week) but have been less (once or twice a week) since Atkins, I was still trying to get used to it (i'm also diabetic) I started yesterday though and I will be going 4 times a week again. Should I do more cardio or machines? When I go I do half hour of machines and half hour of cardio (treadmill or elliptical)

Sorry for the long post, I'm really determined to find out what I'm doing wrong. Since I'm already doing this, might as well do it right, right?

        Thanks Liz.

          Hi happymomto4,

You just got diagnosed with hypothyroidism? I got diagnosed last February, a couple months after my radioactive iodine therapy (I was hyper first) Since then, the diets that used to work for me didn't.

I saw that you lost 30 lbs from July to Sept, you weren't hypo yet then i'm assuming? cause if you were then you give me hope that I can lose 20 lbs in 3 months

            Re: Frustrated

I have no idea when my thyroid stopped being efficient--the dr speculated it's been awhile since by the time I went in to have things checked out last month, I had lost a lot of hair. My hair is very thin now. I also cold all the time (still am) and needing more sleep at night or I wake with a headache and that wasn't usual for me. Dr said that by the time you have symptoms (beyond weight gain) you've probably been hypo for awhile. So...yes, I probably lost my weight while having an inefficient thyroid. I'm just frustrated that now that I'm taking steps to fix things, my weight loss has halted. Oh well, like I said, I'm sticking it out because I know that Atkins works for me! Just hoping I need to give my body time to adjust.

              Re: Frustrated

do you take meds for your diabetes?
They would slow weightloss down. But they do not make it impossible to lose.

Do you know how much you eat? Have you tried FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal and figured out what your calorie intake is and your fat and protein and carb

You are eating too few veggies. Us hypos sometimes do better with more veggies in our diet. You are supposed to eat 3 cups. Most of your carbs come from sugars in dressings and perhaps starches in the meat products you are eating. Dressings at fast food places are usually loaded with sugar and should be avoided.

Remember that you are allowed only three sweetner a day (and you are having that in your dressings it looks like so if you drank soda in addition to that it could be hard to lose.

Hang in there. It sounds like something is happening with looser clothes. So just tweak it a bit. Add more veggies, take your multivitamin, drink plenty of water and try to get your exercise in. Don't stress too much about your wedding (I know easy for me to say)

                Re: Frustrated

I don't take medication for my diabetes. I have a caesar dressing with 1g of carb per serving, is that okay?

I realized that about the sweetener that's why I stopped

Also, does the multivitamin help in losing? or is it more for health issues? I have looser clothes and I feel great, but the moment I weight, I feel so down. A lot of people say I'm still losing but I feel like it's probably just water that I got rid of so I'm less bulgy (but then again, if it's water I lost then it should be reflected on the scale right?) I just feel like they only say that cause they know I'm on a diet so it's all in the mind lol

Is my exercise okay? or should I do more cardio than strength training? What's recommended for hypo and atkins?

                  El Pollo Loco chicken
Likely there's sugar/juice in the marinade.

                  with mayo

Spreading your water throughout the day helps.

The minimum is 64 oz. Many people do well drinking half their body weight in ounces.

Every now and then I'll snack on pork rinds.
Flavored or plain? The flavored kind likely have sugar.

I understand everything that I'm doing wrong now, but still...taking out a lot of carbohydrates should amount to at least 1 lb. lost for the past 24 days. I remember the time when I will just stop eating rice (and continue eating other carbs) and I will lose a little bit.

I feel like there's something else that's wrong.

What do you think that may be? You may be over eating or having too much protein. This is why recording things on fitday may be useful. Some people severly undereat. So try and figure out where you are

I feel like any diet that I used to do that worked for me doesn't work anymore after I became hypothyroid.

                        I'll try that FitDay. Thanks!

It may be true that things are more difficult now. This may be a good reason for you to be extra vigilant with what you consume. Stick to whole foods and eat less chemicals.
But there are many here with hypo thyroid like me. And once the medication is working, which mine is, there are really not any metabolically with the thyroid stopping weight loss. Slowing perhaps but stopping no. If you are diabetic (II ?) you should absolutly limit carbs and sugars just for your health right?

                            Re: Frustrated

You have lost a lot of weight in the last six months. Maybe your body is just readjusting. It happens. It doesn't mean there is anything you can necessarily do to fix it (although I would still shoot to eliminate problems). You may just have to wait it out. My advice would be to make sure you get your water in and get in 3-4 hard cardios a week. No magazines, no watching the TV at the gym, just 20 minutes of Interval training where you are pushing yourself on that treadmill/elliptical whatever. That may be what you need to shake things up.
