  • I think they are trying to kill me...well at least deter me!

I work in an office setting, and as in such settings, people think it is very kind and thoughtful to bring in goodies and set them on the buffet (aka the file cabinet)

Do they not know that they are literally killing me????
Every day or so, an evil bouquet of muffins and breads and sugary sweets and petite fours, disguising themselves and danity little innocent treats, present themselves. When I bring in my own lunch or plan my low carb meals I do great but there are only so many platters of sweets and breads that I can ignore.

I haven't cheated on an office treat in a LONG TIME, but the tempatation is almost overwhelming!!!!!! Why do they do this? I try to move them to another cabinet, but invariably they get moved BACK TO mine.

Atkineers I need support here....I had some string cheese and brought leftovers for lunch, but come on people, everyone has a breaking point.

Have you tried putting enough stuff on top of your cabinet that the goodies can't be there? A plant or knick knacks or pictures? something that isn't a flat surface.

We had a member here who used to cook bacon and eggs in the office kitchen whenever the bagel-donut people got on her nerves.

Well, its not really my cabinet, but its right outside my office. So I can’t really litter it with stuff..pooh
Well, it wasn’t bacon and eggs but I just went and filled up with hamburger, cheese and sour cream : )
I will conquer! And I moved the evil stuff to another file cabinet!!!

The other thing you can do is put one of those veggie platters on the cabinet closest to your door. So when you pass by it, you'll see veggies (and you'll be able to snack on them too). When you move onto OWL, you can put a jar of mixed nuts or a basket of seasonal fruit there.

            same thing at my job

I work in a hospital, patients love to bring us goodies. They have conferences where food is served. Our lovely nurse and receptionist bring the extra's back , claiming the patients will get them, YEAH RIGHT, after the staff is harrassed to eat the carb laden viddles. Weekly this occurs, today it was croissants, donuts, bagels( i asked for the Cream cheese, there was none :anger , heck i could have used that. I like what someone else on a post said, "im allergic to carbs, it makes me break out in fat" or "nothing tastes as good as being thin feels"

We have the carb fests here too. I just keep my induction foods handy and when they roll in the door I go grab a healthy snack and since I am always so full I don't even consider them anymore. Used to smell them though. That helped me feel better.

I feel "harrassed" in a way, except I know that several people here also eat somewhat low carb.

That's funny "im allergic to carbs, it makes me break out in fat" .
Last weekend when I visited my sister's family, my 10 year old nephew wanted to know why I wasn't eating the bread and other things. I told him I couldn't metabolize carbs and that I was "allergic" to them...

That's the way I'm starting to think of carbs, is that I am allergic to them!

Who decides to put the food on just that cabinet? If it is the same person or few people every time can you make a point of telling them that having them there really makes it hard for you to stick to lowcarb and ask them to choose a different location?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

                          Well fight fire with fire

Bring devilled eggs, veggies and big salad, a meat tray and set it there.

Maybe talk to some of the other people and just ask for a little support or at least understanding. They may not realize that the "goodies" :red If you could call them that, being on that particular file cabinet bother you.

I am sure that if you made your thoughts and feelings known, :help they will be happy to help out in some small way.

Thanks for the advice everyone. The thing is, I am eating low-carb, but I don't want my way of eating to disrupt others way of life. The longer I eat this way, I know it has to be a lifestyle change and I am never going to be able to avoid coming into contact with carbs and sweets.
Last week on vacation, I think I encountered high carb meals at every turn. My sister was with me and every meal I had to plan my way to a low carb meal. I’m not going t o ask them not to put it there because it is the most convenient place for the office goodies. I haven’t cheated and I’m doing ok, its just so frustrating!
BTW, someone brought the cinnamon, sticky, pull-apart bread today. Hmmm, well I’m just ignoring it…..although I might move it to another cabinet….
                            Argh….
(How do you all eat the way you should and minimally impact others?)

If going to dinner at someone elses house I eat what I can of what they prepare and explain how good everything was but I am stuffed. Cause I ate before I went there :nod At work I just let everyone know and they leave me alone. Even apologize to me for not figuring out some low carb goodie to bring in. Do you have a break room at your office? That is where all the goodies go in our office and even though I go in there often to get my induction foods I don't really feel tempted.
