  • cheated and let myself down.

been on induction for 3 weeks now. was doing great. i lost a total of 21lbs but last night had a relapse with my wife and kids and splurged on sweets pizza and chocloate.

i had been so strict with my diet, not one temptation until last night and now im totally out of ketosis. im gutted!

i woke up this morning with a bad stomach, no appetite and feeling like i have let myself down.

i hope i can get back into ketosis again and it doesnt take my body long to revert.
    what a fool.

the only positive from this is that i totally dont crave any sweet food and realise that i dont need that food anymore.

    sorry everyone
just had to confess to someone.

Re: cheated and let myself down.

Well things happen. And as you say you found out it was not worth it. You will get back to ketosis again for sure - just get back to what you were doing.

In my opinion it is not the actual act of eating that is the problem for most people who cheat - our body will soon get over that - it is the the fact that they broke their resolve that is the problem. For most people that little cheat often leads to a slide and in fact many actually return never to Atkins as they should. I am not sure why that is. This is a mental thing for sure. So if you back today just as you were that is 98% of the battle won right there. Keep going

Re: cheated and let myself down.

that is so not true. Who makes up these things? How would any of us get anywhere on Atkins if that was true. I have been in and out of ketosis a lot of times

It's ok - you learned something, and if you get back on plan you'll be back in ketosis in no time.

You didn't throw it all away - honest!

What caused you to cheat, moondog? Unless you understand this and come up with a plan for next time, it will likely happen again.

What you read about not getting back into ketosis is baloney.

Congratulations on the 21 lbs lost!

Re: cheated and let myself down.

it was my daughters 5th birthday, peer pressure, to be involved in the occassion. the strange thing is since that night i have had no will to eat although, i am forcing myself to eat what i was before the lapse. and i do mean NO appetite whatsoever. no hunger pangs, no cravings, infact the thought of eating isnt even on my mind? i dare say i could proberbly go 24hrs without eating as i just dont feel hungry at all?

not that iam going to! im sticking strictly too my routine but i do feel different to before, not physically but mentaly.

honestly i think i have been lucky not to have fallen of the wagon after that night, but instead i think it has made me mentaly stronger.

thanks for all the support, 21bls down and just another 40bls to go to get to my goal weight.

                thanks again everyone

Boy do I understand We're in the same boat Moonie!!

I fell HARD this weekend. It was my birthday (which for a variety of reasons puts me in a weird place) DH took me out for brunch (and due to the circumstances of the day we slurged on dinner too) on Sunday but the birthday wasn't til Monday which turned into another glorious free for all.

So what did we learn?? Georgiana nailed it.

What caused you to cheat, moondog? Unless you understand this and come up with a plan for next time, it will likely happen again.

We need to keep in mind that whatever set us off in the last few days, lurks throughout the balance of the holiday season.

I'm planning on white-knuckling it through the next 20 days or so and I think the best thing I/we can do is get really specific with the holiday menus.

Good luck and remember to celebrate the successes. 21 lbs is awesome!!

Re: cheated and let myself down.

Persistence will win out! If you get off plan, all you have to do get back on and do your best to stay on it. Most of the people who have lost the most and made it a lifestyle have at some point eaten something not on plan. The reason they are where they are is because they didn't give up, most of the time they were doing it right. Its not one meal that got you fat, it won't be one meal that stands between you and thin. Giving up is the only way to ruin things. Don't set yourself up to feel like a failure. When I first started, I cheated almost once a week. If I had felt that terrible about it, I might have given up. But I didn't give up, the cheating just got less and less. It took time for this way of eating to grow on me. But it gets easier and easier over time. My dad is someone who will cheat and then be off plan for a week because he figures he's already a failure might as well have this and that. Avoid that kind of behavior and you'll be fine!

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

                            1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
                            2nd mini goal: 140!
                            3rd mini goal:135!
                            4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

Glad I got on here to read today..since I am going through what you did "moondog" ..well..i'll let you know how i do..I have restarted so many times that I have lost count. But, everytime I get back up I remember how good it feels when I do get back into ketosis. I have never ever failed to get back into it either. I am lucky that it comes fast like day 3 ..or less. I am struggling with my food because I am in a "anti salad veggie phase" ..I can't even swallow salad unless it's this one place..that is expensive. I even tried to recreate it and couldn't. I must be brain damaged. Anyway, good luck and thanks for the inspiration. God bless
