  • carbs in cheese?

most cheese labels i read say on gram of carbs per ounce. what is that from? there's no sugars in hard cheese is there?
i'm 25 years old, mom of two, ready to do this once and for all!
note: i am breast-feeding, though my baby is nearly weaned, eating most solid food now. i am doing this diet with the knowledge, approval, and at the suggestion of my doctor and having done my homework. i will not discuss the matter in any of my posts. please don't bring it up.

What kind of cheese are you eating?

      what is that from?
As happynatsu wrote, it's from the lactose in milk.

      All cheese has some carbs.

Since you said you reread the Induction chapter yesterday, you should remember the footnote under the Acceptable Foods List:

"All cheeses have some carbohydrate content. [...]"

i know that. i wanted to knw WHY they have carb content. i thought the lactose was used up by the cultures in the cheesemaking process. thats why i asked.

            Because there's lactose in cheese.

Lactose is a form of sugar.

            Therefore, cheese has carbs.

Unfortunately not. That's why lactose intolerant folks have a problem with some cheeses.
