EDIT: Georgiana provided a link below to look up the carb content of many foods.

Exercise is mandatory because it helps. It can allow you to eat at a higher CCLL, you may consume more calories each day due to your activity level, you build endurance, strength and flexibility by exercising, it helps prevent disease, etc. What you choose for exercise really depends on your taste, current state of health and physical capabilities - but anything that gets you up and moving is a good thing!

You can look it up yourself here:

How are you tracking your net carbs? Are you doing it in a notebook?

does exercising curves and palletes hender or help?
      Exercise is mandatory on Atkins.

Hmmm....should I edit my answer as to not give away any answers?

        Yes, I think I should.

          Hi Shrew,

          That is a good question.

I think we should all do our best to be polite and kind, but I think that is a very gray area.

There are some posters that have been here lately that continually asked questions over and over and over that were either in the book or just questions that they were just too lazy to look up.

They had even been given links to search for carb counts, recipes, stickies, and on and on ----they just continued to try to make everyone here jump up and down like trained monkeys looking things up for them that they could and should be doing on their own. It was a pattern for these few people. And then some even argued with the reply/ responses they got after many people looked up and supplied the answer. I know this because I have contributed to some of these people.

Advice questions need direct detailed answers. But Some of these questions were basic things that were major points found in the book or stickies, yet they claimed they had read "everything."

WE are definitely here to help people and assist, but WE ALL need to learn what the TOOLS are and how to use them as well to be successful. Maybe if someone is really new, we can answer the question, and also provide where they can get the info in the future.

And then there is the determination, is this person just really confused, or don't they feel like going to Fitday, or using the carb counter supplied to them just the day before. The majority of the posters do need help, but again, we need to provide the tools as well.

            Hi Claudine,

            How is sunny Las Vegas?

Exercise is something that is easier to do when you enjoy it. Do you have a park district that has group classes? I go to Zumba, Bellydancing (not to be a dancer, it is great for the ABS), All kinds of other fun classes.

Even if you can put some music on and do some crazy dancing in front of the mirror until you get more of a program worked out, that would be good, too. How about some DVD's? Just have fun! But get moving...

****The carb count in MY book for an egg is on pg 496 toward the top of the page. But you should still also either use Georgiana's link or www.fitday.com

              Re: Couple of questions

Hey, Mission. I was mainly talking to myself up above; I certainly agree with teaching folks how to fish, which is why I ultimately edited my response to delete the carb counts. Your post was taken in the exact spirit in which it was meant - and I have found myself pressing the mental "delete" key several times this morning, before I post something (along the lines of "read the book" - but not nearly as nice) that will get me smacked with the Ban Hammer.

(mini threadjack, delete as you please)

With so many hard data resources available online (FitDay, USDA Nutrient Database, Nutrition Data, etc.), it would probably be cool for everyone who signs up to get an automatic welcome message with resource links, in an effort to cut down on the number of basic questions being asked in the forum repeatedly. However, human nature being what it is, I doubt that kind of traffic would be reduced by very much.

And that is quite sad, since it speaks to the level of desperation some may feel when battling to lose pounds. I mean, what other type of endeavor influences so many people to place their health (and to some extent, their very lives) into the hands of complete strangers and a particular eating methodology, with little or no advanced preparation and research?

                Re: Couple of questions

Keep in mind that if you post a link to the USDA, even if you've done the search, the final results do NOT show up ... the person has to do the search themselves.

For example, the main screen for the USDA is

www. nal. usda. gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/ (with spaces, so it doesn't show up as a link!)

If you search for egg, whole, raw and select large, the browser will show:

                http:// www. nal.usda.gov/ fnic/foodcomp/cgi-bin/list_nut_edit.pl

                again, spaces added

                However, that actual link

will not show you the search results.

Hi that is a good question. It seems like it is a bit up in the air right now how many carbs there is an egg. My large eggs used to say 0.6 now the US data base says 0.39. What is up with that? Someone changed their mind or what? Anyways counting 1/2 carb sounds good.

Exercise helps. But only if you want to lose weight and get healthier and happier (ha ha)

Welcome to ADBB. Congratulations on your loss.
