    Re: not losing

i know that birth control can slow me but i think this is more than that and while i know there is no fol proof brth control, getting pregnant on the pill is not lfe threatening. i will lk into it further though. i am thinking of trying the fat fast as a last ditch effort but i'm afraid it's too rigid for me to stick to.
i'm 25 years old, mom of two, ready to do this once and for all!
note: i am breast-feeding, though my baby is nearly weaned, eating most solid food now. i am doing this diet with the knowledge, approval, and at the suggestion of my doctor and having done my homework. i will not discuss the matter in any of my posts. please don't bring it up.

      Re: not losing

As staying on induction levels of carbs and food choices is not working why not try the main weightloss phase of Atkins instead?
You might be one of those people for whom adding more 'good carbs' kickstarts things!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

i igh dubt that. i have celiac desease and grew up before kosher gluten free products were readily available. i have been unable to eat most"bad carbs" for mot of my life except potatoes and we rarely had them cuz my dad was alleric t them. so my regular diet was more or less maintenance anyway. for years and years i was steady at a size 16 but coudn't lose. i gained 30 lbs with this pregnancy and i can't make it budge either.

          Hi Tweedledee,

Birth Control pills are hormones and they interfere with Thyroid levels, as does nursing, as does pregnancy and when you're postpartum, hormone levels go crazy too. If you haven't done a Thyroid level blood test since you've started BC pills ans perhaps 3 mos after the BC pills started, then you should. i remember reading that if u are on BC pills T3/T4/TSH levels should be drawn at a specific time ---i think it's after your TOM starts. Try to see if you are losing any weight during the time that you are not taking the pill. Some pills have higher estrogen levels, some higher progesterone levels, you may want to discuss w/ your doc if a different BC pill would work better w/ Thyroid deficiency, (Ask your OBGYN and Endocrinologist, even your reg doc...but the specialists may be more aware of the issues). Here are some links discussing the hormonal connections:

            Re: not losing

how low are you eating your calories on induction cause low cal low carb will fry your thyroid even more.

Oh and when you get that blood test you want free T4 tested not T4 cause much of the T4 will be bound to proteins in the blood stream by those BC pills and not availible for your cells to be converting to T3 the active form.

                Re: not losing

low carb doesn't fry the thyroid. reread it LOW CAL LOW CARB diets fry the thyroid.

Some folk artifically keep their atkins cals low while doing induction thinking it will spped up their weight loss without realizng that low cal and low carb harms the thyroid. Atkins is about doing all the phases too and in OWL we add back more carbs while allowing our hunger to dictate the cal total intake.
